One main reason Blu is not taking over as fast is due to Sony's association to the format. People have been burned by this company and do not trust them, myself included.

If I had two products which worked the same I would go with the non-Sony brand without hesitation. It's a "Fu Yuan"? Well it can't be any worse than the freaking Sony.

Right!

Stop generalizing what other people think from your own experience. Also, you would take a no name chinese brand over a Sony? Well, that's crossing the ignorance line and jumping head first into stupid territory.

I am a consumer who uses a PS3 to play movies. This means I must pledge allegiance to Sony?

My hatred for Sony is very real however there was a taste of sarcasm in my previous post. You and others missed it. I dealt first hand with Sony support and they were terrible when it came to customer service. This is my opinion based on personal experience.

These type of company rankings are subjective FUD. There are many people who do not like Sony. Dio you think they hate Sony because they love the XBOX, M$ or HD-DVD? It is far more likely Sony burned them as customers. Maybe even with their laptop batteries. (This is more sarcasm.)

Sadly, it is very likely you or someone you know will have a horrible experience with Sony. Sony will have another two customers who will say you have no credibility. Other people will feel the need to say they are a great company, et al... That's why Sony does not really care about their customers. It's a facade.

Who said anything about pledging an allegiance??? If you hate Sony so much - why did you buy a PS3? Your contradicting yourself....

That is obvious and why I take your post with a grain of salt. You can go on hating Sony, but YOUR experiences do not match up with mine. I have very little Sony products because I buy what I believe are the best products in that category. I have from Sony - the PS3, a 10 year old (yes 10 yrs old) DVD player that I just retired thanks to the PS3 that never once gave me a problem and works just a well today as the day I bought it. An finally a Hi-8mm player, again over 10 years old and working just like the day I bought it.

This is FUD - I can think of many examples in the computer industry by many companies that people get burned by every day - and some more seriously if you ask me rather than just needing to replace a battery....

See above experiences with my 10 year old DVD and Hi-8 player....I have had nothing but great experiences with the products from Sony I chose to buy.

Me too. The PS3 is the greatest consumer electronics device ever produced by any company IMO.

I think a lot of that is in your mind. It's also ironic and somewhat laughable to see you harp on FUD when you're posting some right here yourself.

Anyone could rewrite your post and start exchanging out Sony's name with just about any other super large company and it's essentially the same.

These super large conglomerates are going to be hit and miss and their customer service will also be hit and miss, along with being on the phone on hold for up to an hour and hoping to God you get someone who can speak English AND knows what they're talking about.

I'm not making any excuses for it. That's just the way it is.

Whenever I see the word "hate" in these kinds of context, it immediately betrays a certain irrationality of sorts.

I guess you missed the market research of this article that says the opposite..it's because Sony *is* assoiciated with a product that people trust it...because they exceed consumers expectations on what they deliver.

I think a % of early adopters/geeks have been burned or imagine that they have been, by Sony.

But then, early adopters always get a little burned. It's a sampling bias issue which causes the hatred of Sony cos they, more than any CE company I know, are more likely to push the envelope and try out/push new tech/formats. So, they end up "burning" more early adopters. CE companies that happily follow and never lead will never burn early adopters. Imo

Thats prob what the dude above means when he says Sony brand-name is holding back BD, but he should know it comes across as him saying that J6P thinks that of Sony. That is not true.. and the proof is not anecdotal, badly sampled or bias-inspired, its a full-on survey.

The following link exists: Sony-->SGI-->AlixPartnersLLC-->Sony. This survey is FUD.

Silicon Graphics (SGI) was in trouble and needed financing or they would be bankrupt. AlixPartners LLC came to SGI's aid. Sony later bought 10 percent of SGI-Japan. AlixPartners LLC did the survey.

"As previously disclosed, securing this new credit facility is part of the company's restructuring plan developed with the assistance of turnaround firm AlixPartners LLC and is intended to improve the Company's liquidity."
http://www.sgi.com/company_info/news...financing.html

Sony buys 10% stake in SGI Japan
http://www.networkworld.com/news/200...-sony-sgi.html

Search google for Sony+SGI and see what you find. They have many products they work on together. Search on SGI+AlixPartners LLC and see what you find.

Let's leave the FUD to the HD-DVDers and keep it off this forum. Let's find another HD-DVD story we can disprove instead. I am done in this thread.

My post was entirely subjective. The study was not objective it was subjective.

Objective would be if the study viewed Sonys customer issues. They count the successfully resolved issues compared to the unsuccessful issues. Compare the ratio to other companies using the exact same methodology.

Subjective - taking place within the mind and modified by individual bias; "a subjective judgment."
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ition&ct=title

Objective - undistorted by emotion or personal bias; based on observable phenomena; "an objective appraisal"; "objective evidence"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ne%3AObjective

"Based upon a survey of 5,000 consumers in Fall 2006...." <==Subjective.

"Based upon a random sampling of open issues...." <==Objective
