No slipcover (lenticular or otherwise), I assume? Normally I toss them, but I like having (most of) my 3-D releases, which I shelve together, to have an eye-catching uniformity.

I have never received a slip for any Twilight Time release I own, so I would expect not. Then again, a lot of current 3D releases don't have lenticular slips, only regular or embossed slips.

Critical response

When the film was released, Bosley Crowther, film critic for the New York Times, panned the film. He wrote, "Columbia's first stereoscopic film—a conspicuously low-grade melodrama ... called Man in the Dark, ... must be viewed through polaroid glasses to be seen for any effect whatsoever, is a thoroughly unspectacular affair."

More recently, critic Elliott Stein, writing for The Village Voice, discussed the effects used in the film: "This seems to be the 3-D flick that most exploits the short-lived medium. An endless array of stuff comes whiffling at your face—a lit cigar, a repulsive spider, scissors, forceps, fists, falling bodies, and a roller coaster. The prolific Landers may not have been a great director, but he was a pretty good pitcher."
That's helpful. Thanks JBug.

As a customer/owner of 6 Twilight Time titles you can expect to get a case, disc, and that is about it. Supposedly they give magnets to the first so many customers of a title but I have never gotten anything from them other than the discs I ordered.

The titles are pretty much bareboned except for an isolated score which has never mattered to me but some people appreciate. Extras are not their forte. However, they are the only game in town at this point and time for the titles they have the licencing rights to.

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot will be my next purchase from them and I will see at that time what I add to the order. Not sure if I will order Man In The Dark even though I am on a 3-D kick right now.

Just received an e-mail from Screen Archives Entertainment that Man In The Dark 3-D (1953) has shipped with a UPS tracking # and the message: "In most cases you should have your package arrive in 10 days or less."

As much as I hate the "limited edition" business model of Twilight Time this is the perfect example of a title that might have never come out on Blu if not for TT.

I was going to be on the fence about this but after reading a lot of threads on this forum and checking out http://www.3dfilmarchive.com I have developed an interest in classic 3-D movies. Thus I will be adding this title to my collection and I am hoping that Twilight Time might see fit to release some other 3-D movies that might not have been released otherwise.

I've been waiting for this one for a while and it finally arrived today. I just watched it and the image quality was excellent and the 3D was fantastic. Tons of depth and lots of pop out effect. I wish modern 3D movies looked as good as this.

Not the best movie in the noir cannon but lots of fun, especially in 3D. I will definately be buying any future classic 3D films twilight time decides to release.

I recieve this today an just finished watching in 3d.

I haven't watched that many noir or 50's movies other than stooges but I have to say this was a great transfer and the 3d was pretty well done for back that long ago.

Now if they could get stooges released other than the sony store on the ps3

I guess I'll go ahead and get this too. I was hoping for a few more user reviews here though.

I agree with both of these assessments. The transfer is really good. Hard to believe this was made in the early 50s. Some of the closer-up shots of people talking (and there's a lot of them) have some of the most well-defined, almost "tangible" depth to the faces/heads of the actors.
Most of the wider shots really only showcased a small amount of dimensional depth. (fairly typical in a lot of 3D fare)

I must include, though, that this isn't the most exciting or elaborate storyline. Very deliberate, staunch straightforward acting with some obviously intentional attempts to exploit the 3D medium with in-your-face gags. Sometimes few and far-between, also.
This isn't going to be my "go-to" disc to demo 3D for folks by any means. In fact, after an initial viewing, I'm not feeling like this has very high replay value compared to most of the 3D blus in my collection.

I can't remember where I saw it, but the movie The Bubble (which sounds an awful lot like Under the Dome) is supposed to be released in 3D on Blu-ray this year. I believe that one was from the 60's..

FYI: The 3D is strong throughout the movie but I noticed one exception. It is a 46 second segment that is in 2D. It starts @ 9:11 and ends @ 9:59. It then reverts back to 3D. They probably could only restore one view and apparently didn't restore the second eyes view as a conversion.
