I have to admit that I also enjoyed watching it when I was a kid, haven't watched it in several years though. Here's the trailer for the new special if anyone hasn't seen it yet. I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest. I'll probably watch it for curiosity and nostalgia's sake, but my expectations aren't that high. The changes in animation style and voices will probably take some getting used to.

Well, because...animation studios don't really exist anymore. They still did eleven years ago back when the Movie came out, but that was just before the big "Ink-and-paint is dead!" movement of '03, and now TV can only do Flash animation on the same computers they would be using for CGI.
Which is why every series on Saturday morning and PBS afternoons now has that stiff, cheap My Little Pony website-y look that all the high-school girls think is "cool".

(But some things haven't changed, like Mojo still sounding like the cheap ethnicist Japanese-anime-bashing joke that CN thought was funny in '02. )

I always found this character to creepy just because his voice, it was just the kind of of voice that sent chills down your spine. As for the PPG Special I will probably watch just for nostalgia purposes but nothing more.

He was supposed to represent the devil yet the red guy from cow and chicken is more evil ironic

Yeah, I know that he was suppose to be the devil and everything, I didn't understand that in the beginning when I first began watching the series back in the early 2000's but it was the picture below that first made it clear to me that he was suppose to be the devil.

As for the red guy in Cow and Chicken, I don't remember too much about him except that he was in a lot episodes in various different roles and was loud and obnoxious a lot of the time.

Also, I found this old Cartoon Cartoon Friday commercial with the two of them and Johnny Bravo which I found to be pretty funny. Tell me what you think.

Cartoon Network is showing 5 hours of the original Powerpuff Girls series this Sunday at Noon. Next Monday is the start of the new reboot series.

I will do my best to remember that this is on Monday at 7:30pm so I can check it out and see if this is any good or not.

It's only a one time special. Not a new series.

They could end up ordering it to series based on ratings but right now it's just a one off special.

Cartoon Networks usually teases a show with an episode or 2 and then release more when their schedule can allow a full showing. Like for instance when they were showing Pokemon XY The Series aired an episode or 2 and then now it's going onto a full schedule.

I believe the difference here is that Pokemon XY already exists in Japan and just needs to be dubbed over with American voices while PPG episodes have not been made yet with this special existing as a one time thing.

Well personally I don't think they would go through the trouble of changing the Animation-style, re-using most of the same staff and all of the original voice actors to return for their roles just for a parody of Dance Dance Revolution.

Then there's like that Powerpuff Girls Z which was an Anime, but the English dub does not use anyone involved with the original Powerpuff Girls except for maybe a staff member or too.

So did anyone else watch the special? If not, you probably made the right choice. I watched it the other day and I can honestly say it was one of the worst things I have sat through in a long time. I had decidedly low expectations from the start, but I still didn't expect to despise it as much as I did.

After the successful airing of the re-imagined special in January, Cartoon Network today announced the global return of "The Powerpuff Girls." Slated for a 2016 launch, this reboot will include an all-new television series produced by Cartoon Network Studios and a full licensing program that will roll out across all regions. The announcement was made today by Rob Sorcher, to kick off the 2014 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

"The original 'Powerpuff Girls' was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide," said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network. "We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X."

One of Cartoon Network's most enduring original series, "The Powerpuff Girls" has earned two Emmy Awards along with five nominations, as well as countless animation honors throughout its 78-episode run. The series also inspired a feature film in 2003, a tenth anniversary special, and a re-imagined CG special, "The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed," which aired on Cartoon Network in January 2014 and featured Ringo Starr. "The Powerpuff Girls" is one of the top-grossing Cartoon Network brands of all time, with more than $2.5 billion in retail sales generated since its debut, and has endured as a global fashion brand with a range of apparel partners and fashion collections around the world.

"As the original ambassador of ‘girl power,' The Powerpuff Girls brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation," said Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises. "With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks."

"The Powerpuff Girls," which debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998, was created by Craig McCracken and centers on three sugar-coated superheroes whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime and winning at hopscotch.

I have considered picking up the complete collection, but I think I might wait because they might eventually release it on Blu-ray, as well as the movie.

Sorry to bump but,

I just got the complete series in the mail from an eBayer. Haven't unwrapped it yet, but there's a Canadian Home Video sticker towards the bottom of the back of the box. Should I be worried? Is this the exact same set that is pressed in the US(I reside there)? I'm always wary about such things.

Hey, just wanted to tell you that I checked Amazon.ca and saw that The Powerpuff Girls Complete Series is Region 1 (U.S and Canada) so it should play on your DVD player.
