based on your logic Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance should've been given a sequel b/c it's #'s were better than either Fantastic Four movie......and it also had a smaller budget. |

FF made 330% of it's budget worldwide FF2 made 222% of it's budget worldwide GR2 made 232% of it's budget worldwide all I'm saying is a lot of movies do well overseas and don't warrant a sequel b/c their domestic box office wasn't very strong. ![]() |

If no one followed comics, then yes it would be fine to make those changes, but comic book fans like when their favorite superheroes look the same in their movies - the same goes regarding costumes. Comic book fans want to see a match. No one wants to watch a white Luke Cage in the same way no one wants to watch a black suit capeless Superman with long hair or Wonder Woman with a leather jacket and jeans. It's not about being open-minded. There arent that many superhero movies produced to allow those creative changes. There seems to be a lot of superhero movies released every year but there really are not so many. Everytime our favorite hero gets put on the screen, we have to wait usually 2 to 3 years. So since there is a bit of wait, we just want to see our heroes having their traditional looks. HAD their been more superhero movies released - such as three Spiderman movies per year - then I think people would be okay with seeing these characters get more creative versions (such as black or hispanic Spiderman movies, or Fantastic Four in their ugly white costumes). So, according to "I was never into comic books.... I was never that kid" Anthony "The Falcon" Mackie, there's something wrong with us fans who actually read the comics, respect the source material, and would like to have the movies adapt that source material faithfully -- including the race of the characters. Yeah, there's something going on with us/me?!
Just because I'm a traditionalist doesn't make me a racist... and I'm sick of everyone that accepts this film's casting direction trying to twist it that way. It's offensive. But I'm not going to argue the point anymore, at least not here, where you can't honestly speak your mind about it. What I am going to do is boycott the film, because even beyond the racebending, I don't think this movie is going to give me what I want, which is a traditional/faithful take on the Fantastic Four. This is one fanboy that is just not that desperate anymore to see every movie Hollywood makes based on comics, especially if it deviates from why I'd want to see the film in the first place -- which is the characters I grew up with come to life. I can only accept so much, and I'm only willing to pay so much for it. I have to draw a line someplace and I'll let my wallet do the talking. I will be going to see Captain America: Winter Soldier, and although I take umbrage at Mackie's comment, I'm very much looking forward to his performance as The Falcon --- in which I have to say that I would not be looking forward to had they cast a white guy (even if said white guy was a better actor) as the Falcon instead. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=95376 Last edited by Darkstream; 03-02-2014 at 04:23 AM. |

This is 2014. People are perfectly OK with seeing people of different races act in movies. BUT, when famous characters in a beloved comic book are being brought to life on screen, you can't blame people for getting bent out of shape when the actors look radically different from what we've seen our entire lives. |

Thanks for that link, Darkstream.
Mackie is amusing in that he's someone who admits to not reading comics/growing up with them - but also has the brass to make a blanket statement about those that might have had a different experience. As children, most of us looked to role models and heroes that we identified with. I think that's something that someone that never read a comic book (or experienced that connection) might easily discount. Also, I find it odd that people are still sticking to acting talent in defense of the casting. |

And I'm assuming none of you are children anymore. I guess different people have different levels of nostalgia. ![]() |

As for not being children... Of course not, I was simply making the point that some people have stronger feelings about certain things that others discard. You're 100% correct: different people have different levels of nostalgia. |

The thing is, if it's a movie whose source material is based on a popular comic, they should try to make the movie look as much like the comic as possible, no? |

The way I see it, it is the Fantastic Four in name only based on what I've read. Of course it could be a red herring on Fox and the director's part, but who knows until we start seeing some footage of the movie. I honestly can't remember if I posted it here before I went on vacation or what? But I think this is where Marvel wasn't smart when it came to their Ultimate Universe. There they could have diversified and shook things up and it would have been separate from their regular Marvel Universe that most of us grew up. It was their opportunity to think outside the box sort of speak. Instead they only slightly tinkered with the formula that made the MU great. I honestly think it might have been more interesting if Spider-Man wasn't Peter Parker or Steve Rogers wasn't Cap from the get go. Back on topic, I just feel this is just a hot bag of mess at this point. It is almost like they're rushing this so that they don't lose the rights. It would be great if Disney would just buy them out and put this out of its misery.
