This is a highly anticipated release. Always been a fan of Dirty Harry. Aside from the original I like the Dead Pool the best. Was that not Jim Carrey's first role as Johnny Squares?

No reviews yet. I've been looking around. A few people on a couple other forums I lurk at have posted that they have it, yet have failed to post impressions. I really don't understand the point in that. Save your post until you can tell us something worthwhile.

I ordered my set from Warner on the hopes of it shipping a little early, like they've been known to do.

SUPPOSEDLY, this set is DVD box sized (in terms of height), but I'm not positive about that. I dunno why they would do that.

Dirty Harry Series was recently aired in one of the Japanese HD channels. The PQ sucked on every scene. Anyways let's hope for the best.

Are you sure about that? I only translated it using a website, but it seemed to indicate that the master is the same as the new special edition DVD, not the old DVD.

Not to mention, they gave them 9/10 and 8/10 for image, respectively.

Warner has done some very fine restorations and I don't expect this to be any different. The first one will at least look great, I'm assuming. I'm sure less care was given for the sequels, but I'm sure they'll benefit as well.

Yes that's what it says, they used the same Master as for the Special Edition DVD, therefore there are still the same small imperfections here and there. But they liked the overall picture quality and grain.

I would imagine they would use the same masters/remasters for both the DVD and BD since they are both being packed and released at the same time. I'm not sure why they would bother to state the obvious.

when can we get all the DH films released I don't want the entire box!. Due to custumes rules I cannot buy the entire box or I get some huge import tax!.

Here is a link to reviews of the whole Ditry Harry set. They all have Dolby True HD 5.1, and from what the reviewer said the picture has been cleaned up nicely.

Here is a quick French-English translation of the video section of the review. (Sorry for any mistakes, I'm a Spaniard!)

At first blush we can regret the same master has been used as for the SD special edition, with its small imperfections (occasional drops and blemishes on the first reel), but we must admit that this Blu-ray edition of Siegel's masterwork leaves us with a feeling of great satisfaction. Granted, the image doesn't pack the punch of recent productions, but as of today it is the best transfer ever offered to us.

There is a certain amount of grain, but it is largely the original film grain, which gives a nice texture to the image. Picture is sharp and detail level is excellent (more during daytime scenes). The color palette is also great and gives us natural hues and very good general saturation.

Nevertheless, certain sequences are uneven, as we observed for the SD edition, but rediscovering Harry in these conditions is simply magical, considering the age of the film.

Not surprisingly there is a huge improvement over previous SD DVDs incarnations but the image quality gets better as they span the 17 years they were made (from 71-88) with Dirty Harry looking fine but the lesser of the 5 - in terms of transfer quality. Personally, I think Sudden Impact looked the best but all are the brightest and sharpest I have ever seen the films outside the theatre. The colors, detail and depth are definitely at the high end. Every facet of transfer quality seems improved. Outdoor sequences seem particularly detailed and there is some minor digital noise, in monochromatic black backgrounds, as a minor negative. I noted a couple of instances of moiring and the first two had potential shimmering but it never really evolved. I suspect if I was forced to score image out of 5 - it would be solid 4.0's to 4.5 respectively escalating for the five Dirty Harry editions.

Technically the three are supported with their original aspect ratios, 2.35-2.40 and 1.85:1 in glowing 1080p with VC-1 compression. I would occasionally check the bitrates and it would be a quite high - in around 34-40 Mbps.
