sorry, we cross posted.

right now, I don't have anything except an HDTV.

Next week, Dish is installing their HD cable box.

I can;t imagine my old marantz receiver will be of use.

When I get the Blu-ray dvd player, I am just going to run it straight into the TV for now.

Later, I will get the 605.

My husband cannot understand why I need the new reciever. "The sound is just fine", he says. As you can see, I care more about this than him!

I guess what I really need is advice on how to get started with HD...then let it evolve over time.

I don't think my current receiver has an optical in.

The DVD player on back order is the Samsung 1500.

When I sneak in the Onkyo 605 I'll hook it up as you recommend.

I don't think less thna 800 bucks is a lot of money for both a BD player and HD reciever!

So....I'll be in the dog house for just a little while...but I use the chocolate chip cookies with him too! hahahhahaha Oh, and sometimes the

Just kidding!

not sure if you're aware or if it matters to you but the Sammy 1500 is only 5.1 via HDMI...

That's ok since I don't plan on upgrading my speaker system. Seems like I just bought these Atlantic Technology speakers...5.1 and it sounds pretty good to me. The spousal unit would really come undone if I was trading those in already!

I too have DishHD, and absolutely love HD channels...I find myself not even bothering to look at regular channels anymore.

Does your Husband like mixed martial arts??

also, in my area I cannot get local HD channels (fox, abc, cbs, nbc) so I connect an external antenna to the Dish box, and now I can get local HD. Did you sign up for 'local' channels?

Yes, we have local channels and i think they are included in the package. Not quite sure, i guess. I better check it out. Good grief this is SO involved!

Ny husband is a big whitewater enthusiast and environmentalist type guy...so we like a lot of nature programming.

He is teasing me because I DO watch Oprah and he keeps saying things like 'Why do we need to see Oprah's pores any more clear"?

I love film--independents, Hollywood, documentaries, hell, I even watch the Power Point presentations out of UC Berkeley! hhahah

I'll check on the local thing, thanks for the tip.
