The curse began in 1995/1996. Now to this TC business....as much as I like Tom Cruise he has no business being in a Star Wars film unless he has so much makeup on that you would never know it was him.

Not for me.
I'd like to see Tom in a Star Wars film. I like the actor, I like the film franchise....bring it on!

Hope it's not delayed, but wouldn't be surprised.

Well there really are only 4 options:

(1) Keep the release date but wait and see when they can start shooting Ford's scenes again-that would be rushing and full of anxiety

(2) Move the release date or at least keep it open to change

(3) Re-write: probably the worst of all ideas because they've already done that

(4) Somehow do a CGI thing with someone else's body and Ford's head-not sure if that's even possible.

That's fine with me. If Han has a huge role in the movie, then keep it that way. If it means we have to wait another 5 months, so be it.

The Release date should never have been a December one. They should have stayed with the May release dates. It wont be delayed at all they will just shoot around him and go back and do the scenes he is in.

Only if he's completely unrecognizable. If we know it's Cruise, it would take people right out of the story.

I can almost guarantee you that no matter what, even if it means greatly reducing Solo's role in the film, there will be no change to release date. Cash flow is extremely important to the studios, Christmas is a gigantic time for movies and it's not going to change. They can have Solo go off to fight some battle somewhere and it's a cliffhanger as to what happens to him at the end of this film.

But if that did turn out to be true then it would be horrible, not only for Ford but for the entire slate of films possibly getting delayed.
There is absolutely no way the release date will change. It's just a silly notion to believe that they can't work around a six month delay in shooting "some" of just one character's scenes.

There are still plenty of scenes that he can shoot where he isn't mobile, all of those will still be done on schedule. Everything where is mobile can be shot later, the entire rest of the movie can still be shot on schedule and they can even begin post-production and go back to shot some of his scenes if they need to.

Bottom line is that things like this happen all of the time and shooting schedules are adjusted regularly. This really isn't a huge problem for a major production with those experienced in the industry.

The release date will not be change due to a "speed bump" such as this

Agreed. I didn't recognize him in Tropic Thunder (might've just been me ), so something like that could work.

I think it is highly HIGHLY unlikely that we will see cameos from people like pegg or cruise. They are too recognizable and would not fit well into the movie, unless they were under masks and we didn't even know it was them, in which case what's the point.

More likely it's just that these people know Abrams and are visiting a friend, especially as an opportunity to visit the set of a Star Wars film

You forgot about option 5: Han Solo is carried around on the back of Chewbacca for the majority of the movie, just like Yoda was on Luke and C-3PO was on Chewbacca:

This could be interesting. Han could loose both legs to a sith Lord or something, and scoot around in a hovering wheelchair like Lars had.

His legs aren't so loose that they would fall off.

We don't know that. Han is in his 70s.
