I can see both sides of the argument, and feel valid points exist for both sides. All I will say is that I hope Warner sees this as reason enough to continue licensing titles to scream factory, or to release more horror titles themselves. If either of those situations were to ocurr it would only benefit the fans in the end.

I've been following this thread since nearly the beginning and had to chime in.
I don't have a terrible problem with them releasing more copies. However, now that DOUBLE the number of copies are to be sold, the price should absolutely drop, that is if they respect their customers at all. The $80 price tag took into account the limited number and therefore limited profit of the release. Now the profit will more than double (considering that a primary reason for the high price point was to cover the restoration cost, which was obviously more than covered by the first 5,000 copies). The question of why the cost was $80 to begin with was thoroughly explained. Either the question of why it is still $80 has yet to be addressed, or the answer is opportunism, and blatant at that. For those defending Shout! to the death, I feel I'm being objective in this analysis. Please correct me if I'm wrong. |

I was just thinking about this the other day since I bought it, but the Supergirl "Limited Edition" DVD is out of 50,000 copies and it still sells for a pretty penny on eBay, so I guess we can all be glad this isn't that "exclusive".

In reality, and without hyperbole, some people are upset because they felt compelled to order early, and pay 80 dollars, because of the urgency suggested by over 1000 of the 5000 selling in under 24 hours, and 2000+ before it ever made it to amazon, etc. It was sold to people as a limited edition to justify the 80 dollar price tag, then suddenly changed after people paid the premium. |

Going by your logic, dsman, these things should all be gone within the next two weeks or so.

"and were probably not happy" - ok, I see the backpedalling now. In other words, you pulled it out of nowhere. ![]() Your nose is always so far up Scream's butt, it's hilarious. And you keep going to that math class, too, you're getting straight A'SS. |

Since a selling point here is the fact this is produced in low quantity - actively pushed by Scream re: the fact each case is going to be individually numbered to represent that, then it seems a little odd to then double the amount in the meantime of taking orders. Certainly, whilst I don't personally care about that, they might as well take those numbers off now for all intents and purposes (or push the first batch and then remove the ordering for the second 5,000). I never really get limited editions like this; just make enough for everyone, dammit.

Although I'm personally not too bothered by the fact SF added an additional 5k to this "limited release" as I simply want the release for the contents, I do think it's rather shady of SF to initially market this as a 5K release at a premium price, *then* reveal the Cabel cut is going to feature sub-par audio, *then* capitalize on pre-order hysteria by adding another 5,000 units. It undermines the idea of how "limited" this release will be as well as SF's claim as to why the retail price is so high. I certainly wouldn't have panic-jumped on the SF preorder on day one like I did knowing what I now know.
Still, as it's been mentioned, anyone can cancel their order through SF or even Amazon with no loss, something I'm still considering. Whether this strategy backfires on SF and they wind up sitting on stock (and selling at a discount) for perhaps a couple years is anyone's guess. My biggest concern is what other unwelcome "surprises" do SF have in store for this release in the coming months.....? |
