The eyes are protected by rheum. Rheum is primarily made up of a watery liquid produced by the conjuctava and a complex oily and protein rich substance called meibum, which is produced by the meibomian gland.

If you're getting mostly an oily substance there might be something wrong with your meibomian glands. There are meibomian gland disorders which can be treated. I'd highly recommend you visit a physician, such as an ophthalmologist, since they specialize in the eye. They could diagnose your problem and start a treatment plan which could potentially make this issue go away.

It oddly only happened from watching certain tvs though, and don't think it has happened otherwise. I had read that sometimes dry eyes or irritated eyes can overstimulate something related to tears and cause more of the oily substance. I don't know, but yes I already planned on going to see someone. Usually when I go they shrug everything off, though. For instance, a lot of days I was waking up with my right eye hurting to the point it kind of scared me because it would have hurt to open it, but also bothered me enough to think I couldn't get back to sleep with it doing that and they just didn't really say anything other than it was "probably" a muscle soreness or spasm or something. That happens several times per month and I don't think it seems to be related to anything with a tv, but who knows, whatever is causing my eyes issues when watching tv could contribute in some way too.

I just picked up a second job...to earn a bit more $$ to start saving for a 4KTV (65'' Sony)...NEXT YEAR!! lol

Going to check out the new demo's of Sony and Samsung 4KTV's at Best Buy this weekend to really see if I want (or need) to jump on the 4K bandwagon.

Tekka gave you pretty much a reason but something as simple as having a very dry environment, dust (the one in the air we don't really see) or allergies do cause that also. Another is dehydration, some don't feel thirsty even if dehydrated. General rule, 2 Ls/day is good.

But do go and get it checked out by an ophtalmologist.

Until I am able to go to someone, I am in a bad situation trying to guess what to do about tvs. This guy is taking WEEKS to supposedly let me return the OLED and I keep thinking I like my messed up kuro better than the OLED, but that one I know bothers my head, albeit less than others. No clue what to do about the tvs and I can't wait until after my head and eye issues are sorted. sigh.

I forgot to mention that a lot of times, the sides of my head actually feel numb during this mess, so doesn't that mean it MUST be related to nerves?

This s so annoying because I keep deciding the kuros are best for me, rather than the expensive oled, but every time I finally decide that, then suddenly the kuro bothers my head EXTRA much and makes me wonder again if I should instead keep the oled and see if I adjust to that better than plasma.

That’s unusual.
As long as you promise not to call Saul ….

Tell me, does that additional symptom you mention occur at any other time, or does it only happen exclusively while viewing video?

well, when it happens, it lasts after I am done watching tv, as usual. But I'm pretty sure it only starts when watching it. I am still trying to figure out how much is related to tvs vs. how much is related to me using a computer all day long and being close to the screen. I had thought maybe switching between CCFL LCD and plasma all day may have something to do with this. I am so confused.

Then stick with the plan…comprehensive ophthalmologist, then if need be, ask for a referral to a neuro-ophthalmologist.

Check this out for something very weird... If I watch the kuro plasma, my head gets that tightness on the sides and bothers me even when I stop watching. But if I THEN watch the oled, it heals it within only a few minutes and causes different ossues, mostly the eye issues I mentioned where they are tired and something coming out of them sometimes. Then if I go BACK to the kuro it will be ok for a while and then back to bothering my head again, repeat.

This happened in the past, too, only instead of oled, the healer tv was an ccfl lcd or sometimes led. What any of this means beats me, but I bet no doctor will ever know anything about it. my guess all along was it's related to light in some way or another and also flicker of plasmas is involved. And why the oled bothers other areas, I'm not sure, but am guessing it's related either to its poor motion, the bigger size, or possibly the crazy high contrast due to its perfect blacks.

Also, I found some site with a lot of people reporting similar issues, where every type of tv bothered either their head or eyes etc and EVERY one of them who went to multiple types of doctors got no legit answers. Only thing they ever got told was it was "dry eye syndrome" and they were prescribed drops, which they used, and it did zero to fix it in any of their attempts and WHILE the symptoms occurred they even still had all kinds of drops in their eyes, so it was nothing to do with dryness, yet multiple doctors would tell people that's what it was.

Would 4K be good for a bedroom TV?

...I think

Obviously most people don't sit 3' from their screen, but I'd like to be able to sit 7 or 8' from a 65"-80" screen and upscaled 4K is surely a good idea in that case?
this is one of the dumbest posts on this forum i've ever read. the 4k home theater experience is a money making conspiracy. 4k is only noticeable on MASSIVE sized screens and projectors in theaters. besides most of the better films of all time weren't shot in anything close to HD and even if you were to remaster them in anything above 1080 their'd hardly be a difference. What you're looking at being put out by Criterion right now in their blu ray format is as good of a transfer as you'll ever see on select titles.

enjoy the flash-lighting and mura on those 4k sony led panels. if you buy one you might as well keep all the lights on in the room. the uniformity on these units sucks and personally i can't even enjoy a film on them. that's just how bad it is.

I spent time looking at the Sony 78" (XBR79X900B) and was astonished at how bad the flashlighting was. My wife (who endorsed our Kuro) wouldn't think of buying it.

It has a great, finely detailed picture in 4K. But during their demo loop, while the pictures were incredible, there was a segment which what just a logo statement - and the uneven lighting completely destroyed the black level.

It does have great black levels, but the backlighting wipes it out.

I saw similar problems on the 65" xbr950B, a beautiful set overall. It wasn't nearly as bad. But they have a way to go, even as nice as they are. They are not worth the high price. I have not seen their 84", and wouldn't even sniff at their $25,000 price tag. Something has to give.

4K is very nice, but it's not ready yet. Not at these prices.

I'm really worried about the input lag I was all set to pull the trigger on 65 hu8550 or 9000 but I for some reason googled that and saw 70+ms and have now halted it sine I do game enough and that seems to be pretty damn bad.

Just not sure what to do :/

I mean 65'' 4k tv is 2999 right now if you got the 8550 which I paid 2499 for the 55C8000 a few years ago and that was a good price so to spend a few more dollars for 10+ inches and supposedly better picture+features doesn't seem unreasonable.

I'm just stuck

The 65" looks really nice, but I haven't seen it in game mode. I'm looking for something over 80 inches - and Samsung's manufacturer-controlled price of $10,000 just sent me away shaking my head.

If the input lag is really bad, that's a shame. This is not a fully backlit television, either in 65" or 84" size. For that kind of money, if they can't do it, I have to keep my wallet closed.

I'm wondering when the next real price drop will come. I was hoping for the end of the year, but it may be after January that these guys see the handwriting on the wall. Their technical issues are not all solved, buyers at this level are far more savvy, and they don't have any special technology to defend with real 4K material so rare.

I don't get it. This is high end stuff, and they're chasing away their high end market.

That's what I wonder about these 4k tv input lag tests are they optimized to run as best as possible or did they just plug it in and go. Because even with the 70-80s I'm seeing with samsungs if they can be reduced to say 40-60 thats more than reasonable [samsungs especially are up-converting to 4k even in game mode which will kill ms times]
