Sideshow sculptures are generally much more expensive than the asking price for this collector's edition, and I'm finding it increasingly unlikely that we will ever see a Smaug statue in one of these sets. Maybe at the conclusion of the trilogy a more expensive edition might be released, but I wouldn't hold my breath to be able pick up a Smaug sculpture of any quality for less than $100 anytime soon. I do find it strange that Sideshow hasn't released any kind of statue of him even outside of the collector's edition though, I guess they'll just save him for the last film.

No doubt about it. I'm sure SS would be all for doing something like this, but most fans won't want to shell out ~$200 for a statue BD release(I my dumbass would ). I keep wishing someone like Kotobukiya could strike a deal with a major studio to do a few "statue sets". Their PVC statues are quite nice, and a 1/10 scale, heck even a 1/6 could be fairly cheap and have very nice detail.

Now, if I can just get Amazon to ship my damn set to the right location(due to arrive tomorrow), I'll be in business!

Sideshow is doing a release of the Smaug statue they showed at Comic-Con this year, actually the preorder starts next week on 11/11. The release is limited to 1000 pieces or even less possibly, so I'd say there's no way it'll be under $750 and probably closer to $1000.

Here's a few pics:

Lol something tells me my parents might be a bit hesitant to let me take out a student loan so I could display a massive dragon in my apartment. It really sucks that I've been a kid for most of the years that all these awesome statues have been released, but luckily they have kept on releasing and when I'm out of college next year I'll finally be able to afford them!

Haha! I gotcha. I do seem to recall mentioning still being in college. Hey, I know exactly what you're going through. Just get what you can now, pay your dues, and you'll be rewarded later on in life.
I've found after being a collector for over 2 decades, that there will always be the next "new thing".
If it makes you feel any better, you are lightyears ahead of me, collecting-wise, when I was in college. I had a few monthly comics, and sports cards!

Thank you, means a lot! And I'm hoping I can set up all my boxes from the Collector's Editions again soon now that the Desolation of Smaug one has almost arrived, I'll definitely post some pics.
