It gave me the largest thoughts of "that's it?", more so than anything else I've seen this year. This was my second viewing, (first being theatrically). I can honestly say that my opinion of Godzilla (2014) is that it was even more disappointing then I remember it. I truly wanted to like this movie. I hope that if a sequel is made, that it's done differently.
You're not the only one who feels this way. One cut-away is fine but you start doing it three, four, five times and you're going to start frustrating people and frankly, piss them off.

More incredible, awe inspiring Godzilla sequel action truly worth to be mentioned alongside the works of Chris Nolan, Peter Greenaway, François Truffaut and Terrence Malick. Action so mind blowing, I can see a Criterion release coming a mile away.

So, I guess in the end, all of your complaints about the transfer didn't matter, because you don't care for the film all that much, right? Was it a blind buy?

No no, I liked it enough but there were way more flaws than I hoped there would be.

I hope they don't try to copy DAM. The idea behind it was that humans had found a way to keep the monsters on the island was completely unrealistic. If you want to copy the idea that aliens use the monsters against humanity then that would not be bad. Also be interesting to see whether they keep the fairies with Mothra.

I made a video review that shows all the available versions of the Godzilla 2014 blu-ray and DVD in the U.S.:

Okay, fair enough. I find it good, not necessarily great, but I will look forward to rewatching it multiple times. It should make a great triple feature with Cloverfield and Pacific Rim. Cloverfield is one I didn't like at first, but have grown to. Here's to hoping Skull Island leads to a crossover at Legendary.

Awful characters? In a Godzilla movie? Say it isn't so!!!!

In all seriousness, besides the original film to some degree, Godzilla is not known for strong, well-written characters. The humans subplots were almost always used to glue the monster scenes together. That's really why the cast didn't bother me in this movie that much.

To me, Godzilla was one of the best monster films I've seen since Cloverfield. I can't say how many times I have defended this movie, but yes, it does have flaws to it. However, it is still an enjoyable flick to watch, regardless of noticeable faults.

that's weird.

My two local targets had tons of exclusive versions in store. It was just a struggle to find one without a mangled slip cover in those stupid plastic anti theft cases they shove everything into.

Could you imagine how frickin' huge King Kong would have to be to pose a threat to Godzilla? It would be cool as hell if they did it though, that's for sure.

Yep, I've been to three Targets the last two days and haven't found one yet that isn't mangled from those plastic coffins.

I gave up and just grabbed the 3D version from BBY since it was only $15 with a TV season purchase.

Not to derail the thread (ok, maybe a little ) but they could make Kong incredibly fast and agile for his size, which could counteract Godzilla's strengths a bit......maybe. Godzilla is just so huge and slow, I could see it working.

Please fellas, don't go there. I saw it three times in the theater and bought a ton of merchandise related to the film. The film could have been a game changer but sadly it was an above average summer blockbuster. People don't have to be all goo-goo ga-ga over something in order to like it.

Oh, duh. I forgot you said you saw it three times when I asked if it was a blind buy.
