thats likely what people said about plasmas when they first launched though Kakashi... everyone thinks its cool but its not worth the price tag for many people... but that kind of buzz with little sales allows the company to make a small amount of the units to meet the small demand while expanding and improving the manufacturing process to make it more affordable

Personally I dont like plasmas. But seriously, how many people are going to buy a $2,500 11" tv? Maybe that guy who has a $6,000,000 HT setup, or Bill Gates. But not your average rich person. Or tech freak. I see your point though.

OLED is better? Life span of these panels isn't that great and they have dificulty producing larger TV's. OLED isn't going to be affordable or interesting for a very, very long time! Those OLED panels have their inputs in a special box which is mounted by a ridiculously looking design stand, it really looks like s***

very true... but i would imagine that when they make them in larger sizes they will be put in a bit more traditional of a housing... still something very thin but with room for all inputs on the back... so not as thin as they are now... i can just see it being a more successful tech than the laser TV.

Maybe, yes, but I think Laser TV has the advantage of being FAR cheaper than OLED right from the beginning. They already stated they could produce 46" laser tv's for less than $1000 bucks compared to 11" OLED for $2500

Mitsubishi is going to release their Laser-Vue TVs this fall in two or three sizes, the largest being 73 inches. I've read that the initial price for that size will be in the 4,500.00 range. I've also read that it will be at least a year before Sony will have even a 27" OLED for sale and that it will be many, many years before there will be any OLEDs that would be large enough to qualify (in screen size) for many home theatre enthusiasts. I currently have a 61" Samsung and want to go with the 73" laser (not that I can afford it). I'll probably be dead and buried before there are any truly large OLEDs.

It amazes me that people who have never personally viewed an image on either an OLED or Laser TV, can say that one is better than the other! What criteria do you use for that kind of assessment?

Personally, I don't understand the hoopla about these technologies just yet. I'll wait and see when they become readily available and then maybe I might trade in my Panny Plasma.

yep, subsitute "OLED" with "LCD TV", then you will have exact the same phrase/comment that we see online on forums 4-5 years ago.

I fully expect OLED to become maintream as the LCD TVs are today in 5-6 years.

Anybody at CES who saw the Mitsu Laser TV's? They're getting some pretty good press. Supposedly they'll be comparable in price to current LCD flat panels. Can't wait to see them later this year! Finally something that may be economical @ 65+ inches since the demise of the SXRD!

Yes, thank you. I've asked that question I don't know how many times and got ignored constantly. Now this is what I've been waiting for. A 65" or 73" screen comparable in quality to LCD and comparable in price to the DLP (from everything I've heard). Also from what I was told, they would be widely available and reasonably priced by late this year/early next year. Some schmuck in the original link said something about Laser tech getting canned. Hopefully that's just the "One guy who has to stick his finger in the birthday cake" hateful BS mentality.

Does a Blu-Ray Film look any better on a Laser TV than it does on an HDTV LCD?

and if Laser Sets do look better they will have to be way cheaper than today's LCD's IMHO before I save up to get one.

OLED has the form factor advantage, but they both have the ability to have very deep blacks, as they just don't shine any light where there shouldn't be any. Laser DLP TVs will be cheaper and bigger for a while.

I can't wait to see this tech in a projector.
