Heard it's not as good as Never Sleep Again but it will probably be good enough for me.
I can't imagine a better documentary for any franchise than Never Sleep Again... With that said, there will never be a better documentary for Friday the 13th. It's well worth the cost.

See, that's what confuses me. How can a documentary that's 4 hours long end up being better than the one that's 7 hours long? Wouldn't they cover more in the 7 hour one, making it better? What exactly makes Never Sleep Again better than Crystal Lake Memories? I'm genuinely curious.

That confuses me too. Granted I've seen NSA, so maybe it's paced better? Then again, this documentary also had to cover twice as many films as NSA did.

i can't honestly say that one is any "better" than the other, unless it's a matter of preference re: Freddy or Jason. they're both equally exhaustive in their respective subject matter. also, CLM does cover quite a few more movies than NSA, which accounts for its longer runtime. bottom line: if you're a fan of the franchises, both of these docs are required viewing.

NSA is more informative than CLM. More behind the scenes stories. CLM holds a lot back, especially compared to the book.

The Overall design, flow and layout of Never Sleep Again is just better. The transitions are better, the participants are more interesting, the extra touches feel more professional, etc. I honestly think Never Sleep Again could have been stretched to another Hour or two pretty easily and it still would have been superior to Crystal Lake Memories. There is certainly nothing wrong with Crystal Lake Memories Per se, but it just doesn't carry the same wow factor as Never Sleep Again. The Stories aren't as interesting, it lacks the extra flair and professional touches that made Never Sleep again so impressive. Never Sleep again is a Solid A+ where as Crystal Lake Memories is an A-. Both Doc's are "A's" but Never Sleep Again just brings enough extra credit to make it the superior of the two.

I think both docs are awesome. Now they need to do "What's The Boogeyman?"
Doc for the Halloween series.

Agreed... Halloween & Child's Play top my list. A solid Documentary on Hellraiser 1-4 would be great as well, but "Leviathon: The Complete story of Hellraiser 1 & 2" Is coming next year as is, which will likely be the only Hellraiser documentary we ever get.

I also think NSA was only really missing Depp, but with CLM all the big names were missing, so it felt more of a let down for me. The later films seemed to be missing too many key cast members, I think VS only had a handful of the cast, so they just felt cheap.

I do love both of them, but NSA seemed to get a better treatment overall.

Thanks for this. I own CLM on DVD and I set aside one of my days off to do nothing but watch it all the way through. It was a blast, for sure. I'm definitely a bigger Jason fan than I am a fan of Freddy, but Never Sleep Again is on my list of things I need to watch. It's still hard for me to comprehend how it could be better, but that's just something I'll have to see for myself. Let's see if that extra credit can wow me, lol.

I'm pretty sure they're long gone by now, unless you can find one through second hand sellers, but expect to pay for it.

Thanks guys! One more thing, would purchasing 'His Name Was Jason' add anything to the mix as a companion to Crystal Lake Memories?

Not really. Crystal Lake Memories is pretty much the be all, end all of Friday the 13th documentaries and renders His Name was Jason obsolete. Unless you're a hardcore completist, I don't think you'd need it or ever watch it.

Also, there's a actually sections of 'His Name Was Jason' edited into Crystal Lake Memories, so there are parts that are a bit redundant.

I'm a bigger fan of the Friday the 13th series than the Nightmare on Elm Street series. In fact, I've only seen the first three Nightmare films. That being said, I thought that Never Sleep Again was by far a better documentary than Crystal Lake Memories.

NSA was thoroughly entertaining; it didn't even matter that I haven't seen all of the films. The participants seemed genuinely enthusiastic. There was plenty of humor to go along with all of the interesting behind the scenes insight.

I can't say the same for CLM. It wasn't bad, just slightly on the bland and boring side. It seemed like it only scratched the surface of each film. The participants either didn't have a lot to say, or they were holding back so as to not say anything controversial or politically incorrect. Or, perhaps they were victims of the editors. I don't know; it just wasn't as entertaining.

The making of Part II in CLM was one of the best chapters i thought. Especially when they cover the MPAA trims.

I've been rewatching NSA over the weekend and its definatley better, must pick up the blu at some point so i can watch it with commentary.

ANOES just has a more interesting story to tell, from the films helping to build New Line Cinema to Freddy becoming a pop culture phenomenon. I prefer F13 movies and love hearing from the cast but there's not much of an overall tale to tell.
