Thought the de-aging effect was surprisingly well done, except for two things. One: that final scene must’ve been a pickup because the quality of the effect nosedives sharply. Two: the voice of Junior always sounds clearly ADR’d. It looks fine but it never sounds like the voice we hear is organically coming out of it.

3D is disappointingly mild aside from a handful of shots that really push it aggressively (and thankfully, Ang Lee isn’t afraid of pop-out). But with all the POV shots, it can sometimes feel like watching your friends play Call of Duty; YMMV.

I continue to really enjoy the HFR experience. I know it’s not for everyone, and I’d never want it to completely replace traditional 24fps, but it can be fun as an occasional gimmick. The clarity of the image is startling at times.

Movie itself is fine. Take away the technology and it’s above-average Netflix fare. It kinda-sorta occasionally flirts with being something more interesting, but you can practically hear Lee saying “these commoners roasted Hulk, gotta keep it simple.” Shame. Will Smith is good though. With this and Aladdin, been a good year for him. Hope he keeps it up.

This gets a pass because Will wore a Phillies hat for 15 minutes. The mouth area on the younger version of him gave me Henry Cavill in Justice League flashbacks at times

Really disappointing movie. Pretty generic by the numbers action flick. When is the last time Will Smith made a good movie? I would give it a D+.

The movie was mediocre as expected but I got to say, I liked the high frame rate. No more jerky scrolling! I saw it in the 120 fps 3D version. The 3D was more to my liking than most new movies. There was plenty of negative parallax and natural depth. You don't get pop-outs like this from Marvel. I'd like to see more movies done this way.

I imagine it’ll cost more money and time to render the CGI 5 times the normal frames.

Will’s voice also sounded like he was in his 20’s, but only in early scenes.

3 out of 5 for me. It was OK. Glad I didn't waste money on the 3d HFR version. Also glad that I read that there were only a handful of theaters that were showing it at the full 120 fps.

At the IMAX showing at my local theater, they started playing the JOKER movie until most of us got up and *****ed to management. As soon as I saw that WB logo I was like...oh shit someone forgot to change the movie.

Watched the 120fps/3D screening. It was ok but was surprised how cheap the movie looked outside of the de-aging tech.

So, it's obviously not a great movie, but at least an interesting experiment

I continue to vehemently reject the look of HFR, frankly it all looks more like videogame cutscenes than anything else. It may be a great format for, say, those filmed bits they use in theme park attractions, but I'm not convinced it's really ready for wide acceptance as a film format....

I'm convinced the making-of documentary is likely going to be far more interesting than the actual movie. I'll bet the shoot was lively, to say the least.

The action scenes were spectacular in HFR. Motorcycle scene alone worth it.

Yeah, liked that scene. Although Fresh Prince Will moved like a cartoon sometimes.

Yet another movie where Will Smith says, "Aw, HELL NO!".

I thought this movie was bad enough that NOT seeing it in 3D HFR would have been a waste of money. I might even see it again as it is Paramount and a 3D home release won't happen. To be fair though, all movies cost the same to me.

4/5 - This was my first time seeing a movie in HFR, and for this movie: in 3D HFR. There should be a law requiring all 3D movies to filmed in HFR, the effect is stunning to look at and evokes a feeling like you are actually at a place, all that's missing is a breeze and the smell of gunpowder. As for the movie itself the plot is really subdued, when the climax occurred it hit with a thud and didn't have much of an impact. Maybe it's due to the "soap opera effect" but most of the scenes play out rather "matter of fact". The entire experience was different than anything else I've seen in theaters before, if it weren't for that I would rate it lower due to the weak storytelling, but the 3D HFR experience is something I want to experience again.

Here's an interview with Weta Digital visual effects supervisor Guy Williams talking about making Will Smith young: https://beforesandafters.com/2019/10...a-23-year-old/

If there was, you could easily kiss goodbye to 90% of 3D releases, it would become too expensive and cumbersome to make all movies like this unless they have gargantuan budgets like the Avatar movies....

Will Smith was on Colbert earlier this week and said it was a completely cgi created character, no mocap or de-aging.

I thought it looked good for like 90% of it, but some shots looked like a cgi creation running and jumping.

As for hfr, I have always hated hfr and motion smoothing on TV sets. But I think it creates pry the best theatrical 3D experience.

I think the movie was pretty good, the story wasn’t super original, government agency wants to kill a recently retired operative, been done a million times.

The actors are all solid, especially Benedict Wong, who is awesome in everything.

And the 3D with the HFR was absolutely amazing.

What sucks is this is a paramount release, which means it may not get a 3D home video release which would mean that this movie would really lose nearly all of its appeal.

I'm not sure why he'd say there was no motion cap, when there's evidence that they did exactly that..

Go to 6:13... he specifically says it isn’t de-aging. Says it is completely digitally created.
