if I remember correctly both superman the movie and superman 2 donner cut has DD+ on the hddvd version.. so perhaps they will include that on the set. DD+ is more then DD, but less then trueHD. but still be a good upgrade.

ZonaDVD.com confirmed last month this is a 7-disc set
http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?n...icle&sid=29310

One for each movie (Donner cut is on a different disc) plus one disc for extras...

Very nice artwork, odd though as that logo looks like the Superman Returns logo, I would have thought they'd go with the better known 1970s' image and that "1978-2006" sounds ominous to me. A bit of a RIP for the old Superman:

Ordered £33.99 @ HMV.co.uk using the code 3OFFHMV25 (£3 off £25).

I may cancel that order before June once we get a truer image of the value/price (not the same thing as we know!).

It's basically a half and half of the logos. The vertical is more stretched like the Reeve-era logo while the S has the embellishments of the Routh-era logo but still has the serif on the tail of the S. I think it's a good mix of the two.

As for the whole date thing, it sounds like they are mirroring what they did with the Batman Anthology. I'm fine with that because at least the two tentpole DC characters will have anthologies released by the same studio with similar design stylings. Finally there will be complementary sets which for any remotely OCD folk out there will be welcome news. Now here's hoping the set has the same metallic card finish and that will be icing on the cake.

DD+ on HD-DVD was the same as DD on Blu-ray, a 640 Kb/s encode...

They were forced to use DD+ because DD on HD-DVD was spec-limited to 504 Kb/s.

That's also the reason why DD+ is a dead codec, on Blu-ray we have Dolby Digital (full 640 Kb/s) or DTS (1,5 Mb/s) for lossy and of course the lossless codecs...

I know it's Superman but I wish they'd put Supergirl with these releases. Both as a theatrical and extended edition.

Dude, I'm forgiving Superman II (Donner), Superman III and Superman IV -there's no way I could forgive such utter shit as Supergirl.

We need to get some perspective

Superman was really only ever the great film with Reeve and the others were crap (with some good bits). I'll persuade myself to buy this because of Reeve (and later Routh). We don't need a blonde Super girlie who can't act and and looks cheap.

if Star Wars gets a lossless codec, so should Superman The Movie.

Praying they have made the right decision...

I watched Supergirl a few months back and its not that bad. Pales in comparison to Superman (the greatest comicbook movie of all time) though.

Did you want Catwoman in the Batman Anthology as well?

Lol. That's not quite the same is it? Supergirl was made by more or less the same group of people as the Superman films and is an interesting curio and features a cameo from Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen). I've watched Superman III, IV and Supergirl recently and their good harmless fun. It's not much different from having Wolverine in The X-Men boxset.

Supergirl has more in common with the Christopher Reeve films than Superman Returns, apart from the main character, Marlon Brando and....

Yeah they could include it as a 'bonus feature' or something.. would complete the set better. I'm a 'completist' so i'll end up getting Supergirl if it comes out anyway.

Although Star Wars is a big given, if it doesn't get a lossless codec, people would probably destroy Lucasfilm and/or Fox. But yeah, I agree, Superman should get those as well.

Hopefully Superman Returns gets a new remaster.... when I saw it in the theater when it came out it looked great. The Blu-ray looks terrible though by today's standards, it's very soft. Being one of Warner's earlier VC1 encodes didn't help it I think. Having been shot on Panavision Genesis I know it can look a lot better than the current Blu-ray.

^ Yeah, it's pretty average. The banding is shocking in a number of scenes, particularly in the underwater shots where the gradations are blindingly obvious. If we get all the cuts available on the DVD releases, better encoding, lossless audio and all the features on the DVD sets I'll be very happy.

Yeah if it's the same transfer I'm not going to bother watching Returns again.... and may skip getting the set if that's the case. Watched 1 & 2 on HD-DVD a while back.... wouldn't mind seeing the theatrical cut of 2 again though (which I think is better than the Donner cut). If all films get new transfers then I'll definitely pick up the set.
