I'm a grown man. 44, married with two teenage daughters, and I guess I never outgrew a good fart joke.

I've been to New York once and saw CATS & A CHORUS LINE before they went off, but would LOVE to see more shows hit bluray. I about to odrder CATS on bluray (have it on DVD) and already have JOSEPH & THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT on bluray.

According to Broadway world this Blu ray comes packed with a booklet about the show. Also the trailer is now up on Amazon.

The production seems interesting, I've never seen the musical so I'll blind buy this just for the sake of it.

I agree the cover's quite misleading til I saw the actual poster for the show, wish Disney would release Beauty/Beast, Lion King, Mary Poppins and Aida.

Our local theater group was one of the first companies to do the local-theater version of Aida (or "Pocahontas in Egypt"). I don't.

And then, even if Shrek caught the gay-Broadway audience with some catchy songs about being different, Disney musicals still suffer from Tarzan's fate:
They're "just the movies" anyway, so why not just watch the movies, but then when they try going off the book and doing their own songs, eww, they can't do that!

Lion King just became the highest grossing show in Broadway history, surpassing Phantom of the Opera.

it is possible to have TWO versions of a great story. A film version, and a Broadway musical version.

Look at Hairspray. It started off as a film that became a cult hit, then they turned it into a Broadway musical, and BAM, ANOTHER success.

Same with THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. it was a film first.

Then XANADU got the successful Broadway treatment.

Even ROCKY is being turned into a Broadway musical, and from the first look into it, it looks surprisingly amazing.

So, why not Shrek?

Rocky? Really? Curious.

Well, that at least was artistically DIFFERENT, for the stage.
(And to think it replaced the would-be Hunchback stage musical, which they made because they thought they could only do stage musicals with human characters in them...)

And even after that, it replaced a planned Pinocchio musical, since they thought "Well, Julie Taymor does puppets!..."

(When the cast and crew snicker at the movie behind its back, and turn it into a kitschy-goofball off-script ELO/Olivia jukebox-musical that bears little resemblance to the actual movie plot, define "successful". )

Uh, because Universal owned Shrek at the time, and Universal has the image of leading the soulless "takeover" of Broadway into corporate spinoff-marketing, as they did with Wicked and the Grinch musical?
They may occasionally stumble on a good musical, but they're still danged carpetbaggers.

I saw the Shrek musical when it came to my city. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not sure I care to have it on Blu-ray though. I kind of feel like the point of going to see a live show is to see it live, otherwise, it's not quite the same experience.

Yes please! The Marry Poppins musical blows the movie out of the water

Agreed, But SOME of us don't have the luxury of seeing it live. This is our ONLY opportunity to see it at all.

It sounds ridiculous but the creative team is a really talented set of artists. Will be interested to see it.

Cause NO ONE could replace John Travolta in the lead role. LOL.

I am curious about this release so I will probably pick this up when I can get it for a decent price on sale.
My kids are involved in theater as well as my wife. I would love to see Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, and Spider-Man The Musical get blu releases as well.

Didn't care much for the Shrek musical however..... But I HAVE to get this for my daughter. She loved it (as my son and wife did) and this is being released very near to my daughter's birthday.

While I agree with your sentiments that that humor is the lowest of the low, nastiest, and cheapest and unfunniest humor there is in the whole world, I disagree with ostracizing someone for having a different sense of humor than you.

It's okay to say you don't find that humor funny, but it's not okay to make someone out to be a fool for finding it funny, themselves. That's not okay

That being said, while I was somewhat slightly intrigued by the first video in that post, the second video ruined all that intrigue for me. Bleck.
