You don't have to be. It'll be $20 plus tax for non-members.

Me neither, but they're still 20 bucks for non-members and thus as cheap as we're likely to see them. I spend hundreds every year on these darn sales.

Plus there are often non-member coupons as well, although in-store coupons seem to be YMMV.

I guess I don't understand then. Are you guys talking about a sale on their site, or through here?

edit: Oh, Barnes and Noble? We don't have on of those in my area.

I was hoping this would be paired with The Brood, which I am far more eager to see brought to blu-ray, but I'm ecstatic nonetheless. That cover art is lovely. I just wish we were getting a new interview with Cronenberg, outside of him talking about the effects.

I've always wanted to see this. Glad it's getting a release. I'll be (eventually) getting this one.

Yes. We've already gotten two Kurosawas this year and got at least two of Bergman's last year.

Awesome man! i always enjoyed this since junior high and now i can sell my old bareboned DVD and this should be swell with the features and the usual Criterion restoration.

The cover looks weak though.

I will be especially curious to see that Michael Ironside interview. I distinctly recall an interview with him in Premiere magazine years ago where he was asked about Scanners and told a short story about how Cronenberg was always coming to set and talking about really disgusting dreams he'd had the night before, and how everyone on set quickly learned to make themselves scarce whenever they saw him coming! He ended it with something like "you do NOT want to be in that guy's head." I've never heard any comments like that about Cronenberg from any other actor in the years since, I wonder if Ironside will still be so blunt about his disgust for him, haha.
I'd put it head and shoulders over Fast Company, M Butterfly, Rabid, Cosmopolis, and A Dangerous Method. And a bit over Crash. Never seen Shivers.

Holy smokes, Fast Company. That movie was a chore.

If memory serves, this happened last winter. Is it held just the once and at the same time every year?

Excellent news. I'll be picking this up day one. Videodrome is my favorite cronenberg film but I enjoy scanners. This announcement has been a long time coming.

To be fair, I didn't think it was demonstrably worse than any similarly generic drive-in fodder of the period, genre stalwarts John Saxon and Claudia Jennings are always fun to watch, and it looks great (the DP was the excellent Mark Irvin, who shot every other Cronenberg film through The Fly).
