Nice to see we're still getting bug fixes for our displays after all these years lol

Of course they have to also throw in the "we want to track what you do and what you watch and what you say so we can 'advertise' to you better" mumbo jumbo that I immediately opted out of haha

Wait, there's a new update for this?

I never updated when they darkened HDR game mode. Pulled the ethernet cable so it would stop nagging me to update.

Don't bother with the update. It does nothing for PQ.

I guess this is the update:

[05.60.05]

1. LG Channel has been upgraded and service territory expansion. (Selected Countries Only)

2. Software update contains minor bug fix

Yeah I was surprised to get the update, I was expecting it to just add a message saying that I should be getting the C1 or something by now

My 65" E6 died already. Not sure if it's repairable. Picture starting glitching out, showing horizontal lines and now it just shuts off after 3 seconds. Only 5 years old, I had planned on keeping this screen for years and years because of 3D support but will have to move on. Probably not OLED again, mine had burn in when I bought it. Got a few years out of it at least but because of short lifespan, I now have to call it the worst TV I've ever bought.

That's a shame. Mine started having major glitches on boot 2 years ago, and I had to turn it on and off over and over again to get a normal boot. I finally just left it on all the time when I wasn't using it, displaying a cycle of 2 pure black 4K pictures so that all the pixels were off. Now my TV doesn't seem to have those glitches anymore, but I still try to leave it on all the time when I can in case it's a problem waiting to return with use. But I also have very bad burn in, from news logos from 2017 that still haven't gone away, and from uneven wear due to the black bars on movies which is continually getting worse. So I may ditch it even before it finally dies because I'm kind of at my wits' end with the black bar burn in.

My C6 finally got some burn-in: The Netflix logo on the bottom right corner of the screen. I suspected that if anything burned in on my TV, it would be that. It's a bright red logo, and it just stays there all the time when you're navigating the app.

Although it isn't as bad as I was expecting. You can only see it if the the entire bottom right corner of the screen is blanket red or orange. Even then, it's fairly faint.

You'll want to avoid that Netflix logo as much as you can or it will get worse quickly. Get in and out of the app fast, go right to your movie. You may even want to use a vertical zoom setting so it's off screen until you get to your movie, or turn the color all the way down to zero on an adjacent picture mode so you're in black and white and turn brightness and oled backlight down to about 20 and stay on that until you're in your movie. These are annoying workarounds but they're how I've avoided as much burn in as possible.

You can drastically reduce burn in by running a static snow type video from the YouTube app. I picked up a second hand C6 that had terrible burn in and reduced it to acceptable levels by running

Not by my TV so I can't recall what it's called but have you guys tried running the screen clear thing from the menu? I did have some mild burn in about a year ago but doing that from the menu cleared it up like new. It took like 2 hours to run though.

Don't we get some sort of Premium LG support for buying their OLED?

Also am I seeing right that the new OLEDs no longer have 3D? I honestly havent watched a 3D movie on my OLED in at least a year but this TV had the best passive 3D I've ever seen. Sad to lose it. I'll try to hang on to this TV for the rest of my life if so. Maybe put it in my basement as a cool feature for my future kids one day. Like kids today seeing a VCR machine.

I think you're referring to the manual pixel refresher? I don't think you're supposed to run that unless there's a clear issue with the screen and no more than once a year. There's also an automatic version that runs every few hours of viewing but takes less time.

There haven't been any TVs with 3D released since 2016 I believe.

I can't get to my TV to confirm but you are probably right. I really though my TV was done for, I had really bad burn in almost in the center of my TV. That cleared it right up.

Good to know. Promised the Mrs I wouldn't buy another TV for 10 years after spending the money I did on this on release. So I have not been paying any attention to new TVs.

Yeah I ran the pixel-refresher for the first time ever after I noticed the burn-in, didn't help though. It's not recommended to run regularly as it well wear out your TV.

And yes, I'm not a huge 3D fan, but I have a handful of titles I'll hate to lose in 3D when I end up finally having to replace it. I'm actually considering going back into front-projection which will allow me to extend the life of those 3D Blu-Rays a bit more.

Have you guys contacted LG regarding a repair? You will lose the 3D feature if they replace the panel, but I have heard of them doing free out of warranty repairs for some because of this (probably if you make a big enough fuss). I would rather have a functional new panel as opposed to having a very thin brick.

I don't think there's a way to repair burn in. You have to replace the panel. I'd just get a new TV if I was at that point.

How do you run the pixel-refresher? Is that just "Clear Panel Noise"? Because that definitely has done nothing for my burn in.

No one responded but I'm pretty sure it's Clear Panel Noise. Yeah doesn't do anything for burn in.

I shouldn't think it would help for true burn-in, only really for image retention.

As far as I understand it in layman's terms, true burn in has permanently degraded the output of those affected pixels and nothing will fix it. Image retention appears to be slightly different and pixel refresh does clear that.

I think this might help explain the differences - https://www.cnet.com/tech/home-enter...-know-in-2021/
