The only thing I've played for horror since getting my PS4 is Dying Light. Not sure if that is considered horror exactly, but it was pretty scary in the beginning.

try the Resident Evil 7 demo

btw did you miss PT? probably the scariest game I've played, too bad it's not in the store now.

Even though P.T. was just a small playable teaser, it was the only game that made me take off my headphones and threw the controller. The scare factor is like no other game. It's a shame it got cancelled. It could have been a game of the generation.

I was looking at the VR stuff at the playsation store and saw that the Resident Evil 7 was a free demo. The one where you have to try and find your way out of the house. I downloaded it thinking it would be the VR version since it was in with the VR stuff. But disappointingly it wasn't so I didn't play it. I walked around the house for a minute or two trying out for the first time a standard 2D game on the VR headset. I have the screen set to large so it's literally like looking up at a movie theater screen. It was pretty cool actually. Also watched some game trailers felt like I was at the theater. I'm going to try watching a move like that. Too bad there isn't a way to plug the satellite cable through it. You could do Netflix though...

Anyways I deleted the demo because I didn't want to play the standard version. Wanted to play it in VR. Disappointing. I looked to see if maybe there was a setting to switch it to VR but couldn't find one.

The RE7 VR demo is called "Kitchen" and it's on the demo disc that comes with the VR headset.

I've played the Kitchen demo a couple times. But there is another demo that I know is also playable in VR because I've seen videos online of people playing it in VR. That's the one I downloaded. But my version of it wasn't in VR. Even though I downloaded off the selections of VR content on the playstation store. Maybe the VR version just isn't available for PSVR but they had it listed there because the game will be in VR when it's released.

Here it is right here on PSVR.

Anyone else here play Until Dawn Rush Of Blood VR all the way through? Man was that ever a fun ride. Wholly shit. I did it on easy though. A couple spots were still kind of tough. Man that final boss... That was just awesome! I got so immersed in the game that more than once for a second I thought I was going to accidently drop my guns over the side and lose them lol. And one time looking over the side my headset felt a little loose and just for a second I thought the VR headset was going to fall off my head and go over the side into a pool of lava ha ha. Then I was like oh yeah that can't happen...

There was a couple times the jump scares got me pretty good. One time I got so startled I jerked back pretty hard. It was a good thing I have a tall back on my reclining chair or I might have flip over backwards. And I started laughing out loud at my own reaction. That was so worth $20... But there were times when I just wanted to look around and enjoy the freaky ride instead of focusing on shooting at so many things. Because there was so much to look at. One of these times I'm going to just go on the ride and only shoot at the things I have to to keep from dying and just take everything in.

Im really enjoying it. Its surprising how natural the glow sticks work as guns...

Outlast 2's PS4 free demo is interesting, but very linear. The game definitely puts the player at a huge disadvantage, and while that's key to a good horror game/movie, the demo doesn't give the player a clear goal. Without it, I was wandering through the corn field wondering what the point was, searching for an exit I had no idea existed or not. Then again, if this character was in this situation, things wouldn't be spelled out, like "Escape the evil and find the exit". I didn't know if I had to find an exit or somehow find a way to defeat the enemies. That being my only minor complaint to an otherwise nice horror atmosphere.

Yeah I know right. Feels just like you have a gun in each hand. It's amazing how that aspect of it adds so much to the feeling of actually being there. A couple times I reached up to adjust the headset a little with the controllers still in my hands. And my in game hands reached up to touch the sides of the headset too. Pretty cool.

Can the VR Rush of Blood game also be played without the move controllers? I'm guessing the analog sticks would work?

yeah it can. I first tried the demo with the regular controller. But I didn't play the demo very far. I had stupidly set the difficulty to the highest settings and after I died the first time I just turned it off. But then a couple days later I tried the demo with the move controllers. Mainly because I wanted to see how the move controllers worked in VR. And it was a whole different experience. Plus I played it to the end of the demo and found the stuff that was happening in the game to be pretty fascinating so I wanted to buy it. And then I was very impressed with the full game. Highly recommend playing it with the move controllers.

I keep finding myself wanting to put it back in and play it some more. It's not really long but decently long. At least it has replay value in that you can try to improve your shooting and your score. And there are several difficulty settings you can try to get through. Plus the ride is so fun and visually amazing enough to want to go on it again. You have a real sense of presence when you are on it. I keep thinking I'm going to hit my arms on beams and other objects when I'm zipping by in the cart and reflexively pull my arms back in. Though you can smack your head and take damage if you don't duck and weave obstacles at certain times. I played it a little while last night and this time put the controller straps around my wrists so I'm not as likely to accidently drop my guns over the sides of the cart and into some abyss lol. I hope like as in most games they will add more levels to it.

Rush Of Blood made me very hungry for more fun Horror style games in VR.

Thanks, that sounds like an advantage with the move sticks.
I'm guessing Resident Evil 7 will offer the move controls or controller option also.

So if developers could find a way to assign the right analog camera to the PSVR for all PS4 games, even though they would be in 2D, would that be an option PSVR fans might be interested in seeing? The in game cameras for most games seem like a nice fit for the PSVR headset IMO. That would instantly expand the potential library of the PSVR and earn new fans. It would work best for FPV games, including Fallout 4, though I hear Fallout 4 will have some kind of VR mode in 2017.

I don't mind it per se. I just think Capcom are leaping onto the bandwagon in the wake of P.T. and Outlast. Hopefully they've got something innovative up their collective sleeve. The series desperately needed a revamp, anyway.

That's a good question I'm not sure. Would be interesting to try. I've still not played any standard games on the PSVR. However I have watched some game trailers and even some recoded streams on it and it was pretty cool. I have the screen size set to large and I really love having a movie theater sized TV screen I can watch stuff on. Next time I watch something on DVD or Blu-ray it's definitely going to be on the headset.

One of the really nice things about it is that you can also set the position of the screen.

I would rather have them making a first person VR horror game seperate from the Resident Evil series or maybe a RE spin off or something. That way they could have released a third person non VR Resident Evil 7 like always but one that is in more in the style of RE4 or even the Revelations games.

Thanks LM3D. The theater mode would have to be defaulted to fullscreen with no virtual space to enable the stereo 3D effects for blu ray 3D when that happens for PSVR, as I'm guessing a virtual theater simulation that plays the movie of your choice, would only be capable of showing the flat screen in 2D.
