What is kind of cool about Death Stranding is the surrealism/horror aspect of the concept. This invasive dark oil morphing evil beings/ghosts turning everything rapidly old with the presence of the rain. I'm surprised Darryl (from Walking Dead, Blade 2, Norm Reedus) doesn't wear a mask to protect his face. I forget his reasoning, but remember the rain is deadly.

I wouldn't have minded a Silent Hills game, but Death Stranding: Part 2 proves this is what he was working on all that time. The Director's cut of Death Stranding said a lot in terms of hints of his next project. Quote:
Syphon Filter 1 is awesome except for the clunky control set up, but Syphon Filter 2 was unforgiving with the stealth pass or fail approach. I managed to finish that game once on release back on PS1, but never wanted to replay through that game again. Syphon Filter 3 was much improved. Syphon Filter PS2, I skipped, as they forgot to bring back the hero of the first 3 games, Gabe Logan. The demo was just okay IMO. I haven't played much of the PSP games ported to PS2. Hideo does a lot of things right with his games like MGSV, but agree, he's not perfect and capable of design issues or game flaws, like the unnecessarily, non-intuitive, complicated inventory organization system in Death Stranding for example. With Death Stranding, that actually released much faster when it was his own company. Under Konami, I bet he knew he had a good thing going and milked the project as long as possible with MGSV, tinkering with small stuff when the game should've been released by then. Then the new Casino games boss showed up. Quote:
The indie and smaller developers offer some indie games, like Plague: Requiem, but I'd have to research which others. |

Again, outside of the returning characters, the world of this game looks noticeably different from the first. I don't see a repeat of the 'delivery' aspect of the first game happening. I'm sure there will be a continued 'journey' aspect to the game, but the scale and visual style seems to indicate a more action/visceral tone this time around. And with this being Kojima and his team second time working with the Decima Engine, there is probably a lot more they will do with that this time around. |

It haunts me to this day in a good way.
If you take the time to truly go through the whole experience, it is like nothing you have ever played before atmosphere wise. There are way better games out there, from from an "experience" standpoint, there is only one Death Stranding. That being said, can't wait to see what they do next with it. Seemed pretty complete to me. I plan on doing a completely new run on the Director's Cut. I think I know better now how to shave at least 30 hours from it. |

The first thought I have when I saw this trailer is that Kojima must have gotten the idea from a hot bowl of Oyakodon...
![]() All jokes aside, the story doesn't have to be in an alternate universe and that antagonist doesn't necessarily have to be Higgs. My theory is a new group of terrorists with a religious cover is doing nasty stuff in the name of Higgs. The story could be set several years after the end of the first game. |

If you're okay with scouting missions delivering and balancing heavy cargo on the players back over rough terrain while avoiding water and rain along with the dark oil creatures and enemies, and are looking for some great visuals in the cutscenes and interesting storytelling that takes up 80% of the experience at times, and some cool scenery, it's worth checking out.
I'd recommend it at 19.99 and under, 9.99 being ideal. The controls are generally good, though it's a lot of going out to deliver boxes, getting credit for the boxes, then returning to deliver more boxes while fighting monsters. A challenging game for sure. The inventory system is rough though IMO, and takes some getting used to along with the control options. I remember the R3 and L3 button presses were more critical than I first thought. The maps are large for each map unlocked. Quote:
Norm Reedus looks older, probably from natural aging or from being exposed to the time altering rain so often. |

![]() I'd be interested in having mostly big tractor trailer trucks instead of doing most things on foot or by motorcycle. Unfortunately if the roads aren't built and it's rough terrain, then give us flying vehicles so the terrain is no longer a factor. Then have the oil creatures fire at the player and enough hits would scatter the cargo and crash the ship, forcing the rest on foot and recovery of the cargo before it decays from the rain. |

Game looks nuts. I had some audible "woah" moments watching the trailer yesterday.
It looks like my intuition of this being a more action driven game was correct (interesting he got the action director of the Devil May Cry games to do some of the action for this one) -- the choreography and editing between that Higgs and giant cyborg baby ninja looks terrific. A lot of the animations look like they were carried over from the first game, with some subtle new character movements being added (the way Sam drops his cargo before opening fire on one of those cyborgs looks nice). It's little things like that that I like to see when doing a sequel this close to the first one. Scale and scope looks large and vast. I absolutely LOVE that Mexico will be a part of this game -- as well as some nice looking desert scenery. Also appears to have a day/night cycle this time around. Just an all around wild looking trailer. Just complete and utter pure creativity. |

For example, in the first game [Show spoiler] Now all of a sudden its fine. Also, Sam [Show spoiler] but now in the trailers there's still a Phantom BB or something. I swear, none of the damn trailers make proper sense on how the first game actually unfolded.Am i the only one noticing this or am i going crazy with thinking he literally scrapped what happened during the events of the first game altogether in places to carry on the story as he now thinks it should be told? |

Kojima absolutely knows what he's doing with these trailers. The inconsistencies are deliberate, to make you want to know more about the story and find out what's really going on. The electric guitar railgun vs. cyborg samurai baby fight is there to reel in newcomers with spectacle, but the Lou and Fragile stuff is there to keep fans of the first game interested and get speculation going. |

![]() I probably won't buy this game at launch or until a steep discount/PS+ release. I played the PS5 edition via PS Extra and might do the same here. |
