Man, I never knew there were two version of this. I just thought the audio was different. Curious what else is different with the French version.

Does the US version start with a United Artists logo or is it just the Gaumont presente one as the French version?

UA "Transamerica" logo

I preferred the US version myself. Transfer is also superior.

I mainly watch films from pre-2010s, mostly even pre-2000s. The biggest part of my collection(s) are films from the 60s, 70s, and 80s (or even older). Not many new films.

Blu ray, on a good big 1080p TV, via HDMI cable, still looks great enough to my old eyes.
Keep collect BD. But I must say that the 4K that impress me most are older movies (70-90s), not the new ones.

Why would you say the US version is better, also, the US version in this this release looks better than the French version?

Man, Bullmoose still hasn't shipped mine.

Baloney!

The French and US-version look the same. Same 4k restauration.

Im probably just loving the intro on the French version. The song at the beginning of the US version is hammy and tacky, I love it anyways for the era. But its so much more in keeping with the mood of the film to have this silent approach over the LA skyline and then down into the spiraling, dizzying freeway interchanges to really set the tone and tell you what this movie is about.

It feels like some cheesy US exac said "we can't go silent!! we need 20 - 30 good pop hits to sell this thing!!"***

***with apologies to the incredibly underrated film "The Big Picture"

Yeah, they are slightly behind with Kino releases. Ordered from Amazon after I cancelled and should have it on Tuesday.

Ok sorry to keep at this. But now I've checked out the US version and the intro song is missing there too. Interestingly, the credits for it at the beginning are still there on the blu. On the DVD, it plays all the way from the starting moment to the time he's dropped off at the hotel.

I think this looks more like a rights issue to me now. I doubt they would have the credits reference a song nowhere in the film unless it was not cleared for the blu-ray. Maybe someone knows better.

Of course, I like it removed anyways, LOL!

Watched The Outside Man. Wow. Let me repeat that, wow. This is what you call a film. Lots of tension and the game of cat and mouse Jean-Louis Trintignant and Roy Scheider play in this is only comparable to maybe Javier Bardem's and Josh Brolin's game in No Country of Old Men. Scheider really wants to kill Trintignant in this and the man is a machine that can almost not be stopped.

I watched this in the English version and I can't imagine watching it any other way. Kinda curious how the French version plays out, but I don't think it would make much sense since almost all of the characters are played by Americans and are supposed to be Americans. One issue is when there is French dialogue there are no subtitles, unless you turn on the subtitles on for ALL the dialogue. English and French.

This is one of those movies where you questions why they can't make films like this anymore or at least often. 70's films were a hella of a drug for film fans.

I was holding out a little longer for BM to get this but after reading Duke's review, I canceled and ordered direct from Kino.

Site review is up. Not very complementary on PQ. Interested to hear views from anyone who’s watched it. Mine is on its way.

It's an issue of the reviewer docking scores on account of his disagreeing with the color grading, sharing screenshots from the DVD as a comparison. Yes, the blues in the (ha!) blu-ray move into teal territory, but I guess if you don't have a preconceived idea of what the film should look like, it will not affect you as much.

He stupidly believes every DVD had perfect color timing despite countless pieces of evidence to the contrary.

Those screenshots show no sign of teal for me and look great. Certainly far better and more accurate than the included DVD screenshots.
