The whole idea behind the project was to preserve as much ww ii footage as possible at the highest resolution possible, before it falls apart, they developed their own custom telecine system to do it. then made a documentary out of the results. i think you will definitely be able to see an improvement in the quality of the films encoded, on blu-ray over the 720p broadcast version.
+1 This was a great project and I enjoyed the series very much. Can't wait to buy this on Blu-ray.

Ok so this site has it as the 19th release date, amazon says the 26th. Who is right? I tend to go with this site, this has happened before and bluray.com is 3 for 3 in accuracy over Amazon in my experience.
Hopefully it's the 19th.

Looks like Amazon is correct with the 1/26 date.

Considering this as a blind buy for myself and my father. We're both history and WWII enthusiasts. Can't wait given that it's going to be $19.99 first week at Best Buy!

Another really amazing documentary pack is the BBC World War II Collection. Large DVD pack with some of the most amazing things in it. ALOT of interviews with people from WW2, not just soliders but normal every day people who suffered through things and gave some amazing moving stories. I'll admit it brought me to tears a couple times, especially listening to the lady describing the SS soldiers swinging babies by their feet into walls to stop them from crying. Its a powerful set of documentaries.

I would love to see a good Vietnam docco series come out on BD. I have not seen a real good gripping one about the Vietnam war, its always about WWII.

The Best Buy I stopped at, yesterday, had this out on the shelf already. I would have picked it up, if it weren't for their horrible $34.99 price tag.

You should have picked it up and then pricematched it when it is on sale for $19.99.

Has anyone bought this and noticed it plays in 480p, not 1080i as stated in the the review and specs?

Amazon is holding off selling because customers are complaining that there is something wrong with the BD. Not sure what.

it's only $13.99 right now.
I swear I thought this doc was called WWII in Color when it was originally on.
I thought I remembered that being the main selling point, so this maybe "new" title threw me at first.
maybe I'm wrong though.

Well I saw it in French last spring and it was call La Deuxieme Guerre Mondiale En Couleur (WWII In Color) so I always assume that was the title.
