Hey if Stanton thinks he can recapture the same quality he gave us in Finding Nemo then who are we to argue. I do hope however that it's not "Finding Nemo 2" but a new adventure for Nemo.

I have heard the President of Pixar give speeches a few times and more than once he said he was worried about the future of Pixar and deeply concerned he was that they could keep their momentum. He always said commitment to new ideas would be the bread and butter for the future of the company.

Now this...are we seeing the downward spiral of Pixar? After Cars 2 and Brave and now a slew of sequels, this could get ugly before it gets better.

I'd rather a sequel for The Incredibles. People need to give Pixar a break and ever since Cars 2 everyone's been looking for the opportunity to dig in the nails.

A slew of sequels? They'll have made four sequels over the course of about eight years. That's not a bad thing. As long as they're good, I'm happy.

If Pixar is starting sequels for all their movies please don't forget The Incredibles! This movie deserves a sequel whereas Nemo and Monsters Inc doesn't need them. Toy Story sequels were amazing, Cars 2 was not, Monsters Academy doesn't look that great to me in the previews but I did really like MI so we'll see. In my mind Pixar could do no wrong but I wasn't that impressed with Cars 2 and I wasn't overly impressed with Brave either.

I feel like most forget that the only way 'The Incredibles' is getting a sequel is if Brad Bird decides to make one. That's what seems to be happening here with Stanton and Nemo.

That said, maybe not...From Stanton's twitter:

Didn't you all learn from Chicken Little? Everyone calm down. Don't believe everything you read. Nothing to see here now. #skyisnotfalling

I've come to a point where you can only blame the marketing so much but the John Carter was a bit of a clunker (one that hasn't settled well with me over time) and Stanton was in way over his head for a first time live action director. While Bird should continue pressing forward with feature filmmaking after his impressive, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" heights reaching effort in Ghost Protocol, Stanton should stick to animation for a film or two and then do something smaller in live action.

Go back to 2009 where everybody was on an UP high. Pixar wasn't a franchise company (excluding Toy Story) and it was exciting to get new properties, there wasn't all this sequel talk going on.

Earlier this year Stanton himself said a sequel to Nemo gave him a "bad taste in my mouth". Now we are getting a sequel and Stanton isn't even writing it. So how can it be a story he wanted to tell? Pretty questionable for a company who prides itself on innovation.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with Finding Nemo's ridiculous box office returns.

And Eisner for the rest.
Like, when he threatened to have Circle 7 make a Nemo sequel, as one of their first three announced projects--So now the post-Eisner Pixar has to make one, only Eisner never got as far as a script, so the new studio had to take longer to think one up.

(Please...If ANYONE knows whether there were any more Circle 7 projects lying around in memos--think they talked at one point about a Bugs 2 but never did anything about it--speak now, so that the "sequel" whiners can forever hold their peace.
I'd thought we had finally gotten the sad story of Circle 7, and clueless complainers unaware thereto, over, done with, and finally beaten into fans' heads after the Monsters U discussion, but apparently I was wrong... )

Finding Nemo one sequel tops imo

We don't need a Finding Nemo's Dad or some other cash grab like that

AV: Did you read other sequel screenplays at Circle 7? For instance, Finding Nemo 2?

BH & RM: No. We were all crying in bars (over our rejected Monsters 2) before the draft was finished.

AV: In January 2010, an infamous review of Laurie Craig’s Finding Nemo 2 screenplay went online. Was that review of a draft unfinished, or was the critic dishonest about having read it? I guess there is also the possibility that the critic read a fake screenplay, thinking it was the real deal.

BH & RM: Not sure what draft was leaked, but she was most definitely working on the draft. She, as we recall, did finish the Nemo script. It just was at the tail-end of the studio’s existence. We had our hands full with our projects, so we never had a chance to read it. We’re not sure they would have even let us read it. But we knew it excited [studio execs], and we met with Laurie around the studio and at events a couple of times, as we recall.

AV: Was Circle 7 solely dedicated to sequels to Pixar’s films? Or was there also talk of Circle 7 doing original projects, or sequels to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ computer animated films?

BH & RM: Just the Pixar sequels – at least that’s what we knew.

AV: How did you learn Circle 7 was closing?

BH & RM: After the buyout, various scenarios began floating around. None of these scenarios were that they would close the entire Circle 7 studio. The prevailing thought was that the sequels would continue – after all, Iger and Cook were on board – and that Pixar would send down some people to get involved in the sequels! Yippee, cool!

Then came Vomit-On-Your-Shoes Day! As writers, we always came into the studio a little later than the rest of Circle 7. On this particular day, we showed up and walked into what was typically a bustling animation studio. A huge, cool place, by the way. On this day, instead of being met by the friendly faces of the executives’ assistants, we were met with dead silence. Twilight Zone silence. There may have been a tumbleweed blowing by. We walked back to our offices, which were at the far end of the building, and couldn’t find anyone. This was not good.

Just outside our offices was a large suitcase sitting next to a cubicle, with a Brazilian bag tag and a steaming cup of coffee on the desk in their cubicle. New artists from all over the world were being hired every day. As we learned later, the owner of this suitcase had just moved his family from Brazil and raced to not be late at his new gig at Disney!

Finally, we asked a security guard what was going on. He told us that all Circle 7 employees were called to the main lot for a meeting. It was too late for us to drive over. We’re wimps, so we just stayed at Circle 7 and nervously waited. It didn’t take long before everyone returned to the building – and it didn’t take long to learn that the unthinkable had just happened. It was like a moving wake. Ashen, shell-shocked artists and employees crawled back to their cubicles and work stations.

The first person we spoke to was our buddy, world-class artist, no-nonsense Ric Sluiter.

“They shut us down,” he said. “I’ll be in the ‘Party Pit’.”

“Wait, what?” we cried. “What’s shut down?”

Later, as we sat on fluffy pillows with a large group of people drinking hard liquor at 11 a.m. in the “Party Pit,” we learned how it all came down: With everyone gathered on a giant sound stage, John Lasseter and Ed Catmull were introduced by Bob Iger. A lot of different departments throughout the company were addressed and reassured their jobs were safe – but, no mention of the fate of the Circle 7 employees. Then a lone voice from the back of the sound stage asked, “What about Circle 7?” As it was told to us, Ed Catmull did not hesitate to deliver his answer, “We’re shutting that down, immediately.”

We were also told that John knew Ed may have been a little too direct with his no-nonsense approach. John stepped in and tried to soften the blow by saying everyone will have jobs, etc., and they were still figuring things out. I’m just not sure if any of the Circle 7 people could hear his words, as they were busy trying to stand without collapsing to the ground.

Ed Catmull did come by the Circle 7 studio a few days later and had an open forum meeting where he was much more sensitive. We were there for this meeting. It was nice, and he was quite complimentary of some of the work and the space, but that didn’t last. Within days, human resources was cranking people out the door one after the next. To be fair, a lot of Circle 7 artists and animators were given jobs at Feature Animation. We don’t know the details on how many. We just remember the guy from Brazil sitting, staring at his new computer that he never got to turn on.
Oh, wait, I'm just making that up. Pixar REALLY makes sequels because they've been absorbed by Evil Hollywood and have become lazy and greedy.

No.... just no... Even though I say this, I'll probably still watch it and buy it. I really wish they just leave it alone. It is fine by itself. Look at Cars... Cars 2 worst pixar film ever. [Don't look at my never-ending 1:55 Cars/Cars II diecast] :-D

The only decent Pixar sequels so far are the TS ones. I'm not sure about MInc2 either :-( Loved the original M.I. and don't think it needs another one. If they are making another Nemo, it will be called "Finding Nemo II: Finding Nemo's Mother" or somewhere along those lines.

Really miss original titles from Pixar. It was the best they ever did. Still haven't seen Brave but I'm excited to see it. We finally get an original Pixar in years Yay! :-D

The Ghost of Eisner still haunts Pixar studios!

If Dreamworks and put out more original, quality work like Dragons (which they of course are making a sequel for), they are going to catch Pixar chasing the dollar.

Finding Nemo is one of my few favorite Pixar movies for sure, hopefully it turns out great. I'm quite excited to get FN on Blu-ray later this year.

I give credit to the success of DreamWorks lately to Guillermo Del Toro who's taken on an Executive Producer role with the animation giant and they've been more effective with their slate since.

I wasn't expecting Nemo 2, actually, the next sequel should obviously be The Incredibles 2, but I don't mind them doing it, if it's going to be great as the first one.
I see a lot of people trashing sequels and saying that all Pixar can do now is sequels, but I don't get it, since Toy Story 2, there has been 7 original movies, and then we got Toy Story 3 and Cars 2, and now we have Brave, another original one, so I don't see why people dislike this so much.
I think it is time to do some sequels, Monsters University was a great choice(although it's a prequel) and Toy Story 3 was a huge success, only Cars 2 was a bit disappointing, but that's ok, because Cars was also bad.
So, yes, I look forward to it, not much as I do for Monsters University, which I think will be great.

-------------------

One more thing, is it just me that thinks Up is very weak? I rewatched it today and still don't think this is a good movie, for me it's only nice, but it stays at the bottom of the PIXAR's Movie List, just losing to Cars and Cars 2 obviously.

OBS: I haven't watched Brave yet.
