Oh, man. I would be so thrilled if Let It Be got released on blu-ray.

Can't wait for A Hard Day's night. I'm excited to see how awesome the transfer will be!

A very good friend of mine is very good friends with one of Paul's many Producers and I asked him to ask him... and he said that its not likely that Let It Be will ever be released in any form. I guess Yoko is dead-set against it.

An actual Criterion release... or another Eraserhead where we've been waiting two years for an announcement? This would make perfect sense to release being the 50th anniversary of the movie as well as when The Beatles broke America. I'm in.

This is very good news indeed.

It's great they're going to include the original mono soundtrack .. that's a good safety measure in case we're not happy about the remix.

And reassuring from a posterity standpoint; I don't believe it's been heard on home video since this:

I recently watched my very old VHS of AHDN and to me, it sounds spectacular. Am I crazy?

Default Confused here...

So... Does this mean two Companies(or more) are working on this?

Different regions. Aren't Criterion releases usually region locked?

Do we have official confirmation yet that Criterion is doing this?

Yes. Partially confirmed by the 2014 Preview Art (four beetles), not to mention the first post mentioning Janus Films (AKA Criterion's parent company).

This is still speculation not confirmation. It is highly likely that it will be released by Criterion, however nothing official as yet. Possible in the June batch to be released in a few days time, or maybe for the July batch as it will be the 50th anniversary of its release on the 6th July.

Thumbs up

I'm the OP of the HTF thread regarding this release...here's a link to the latest info regarding "A Hard Day's Night": http://www.nme.com/news/the-beatles/76087...

The technical details of this release as far as I've been able to determine from multiple sources over the past 2 months: 4k-ultra-HDTV restoration from original camera negatives for the movie itself, along with a full-blown 5.1-channel music surround remix from EMI session reels at Abbey Road Studios in London by Sir George Martin's son Giles...these materials were originally located 8 years ago for the Beatles' Cirque Du Soleil multimedia presentation "Love" now playing at the Mirage Hotel and were used for this project. Historical purists will be happy to also know that the original mono soundtrack IS included as restored by audio specialist Ron Furmanek for the 2004 release...this time, it will be used without further processing to recreate a 5.1-channel soundtrack, as the original music stems have been located as previously mentioned. Turner Classic Movies is reissuing this movie theatrically in the US July 4th weekend, and the blu-ray will be available on July 21st in the UK and the 22nd here in the US!!!

Than for the info, & the link.

I'm thinking this isn't the Criterion blu they're talking about, if it has a separate UK release date? And what do they mean by "limited edition"?

Criterion/Janus is a US-only distribution company and their blu-rays are Region-A locked, so the Beatles have a separate distribution deal for the UK, which will go into effect the same week...UK street dates happen for blu-ray/DVD/CD's on Monday, so WE'LL be getting our US-distributed copies from Criterion on our traditional TUESDAY street date, the 22nd!!!

Bought Criterion's LD reissues of "A Hard Day's Night" & "Help!" back in 1987...they're still treasured possessions in my library...
