If you have an Oppo 203 you can put the subs on a USB stick and plug it into the player while playing back any of the 3 discs, the 4K, blu ray and black and white blu ray. When you hit the subtitles on the remote, they are they for you to access. Also the Oppo 203 has a subtitle sync option. I found the 4k lines up just fine but the blu rays need to be set at -8ms.

Here's a quick update on using the subs

I also have an OPPO 103 player. Same thing, play either of the movie blurays with the subs on a USB stick . In this set up, the subs were spot on with the blu rays . The 103 player also has the Subtitle Sync Option but it was unnecessary.

Did I mention how great the blu rays look? Fantastic! For those who don't have a 4K set up you won't be disappointed.

Based on all the rave reviews, I bought the 4k digital from Apple and watched tonight. I was not disappointed. Looking forward to buying the physical when available in the US.

If you ever get the chance, it's worth seeing in the theaters. I saw it when it first came out and it's second run for minus color. My only regret is that I didn't get to see it in IMAX.

That listing says the 4K has English subs... but I thought the Japanese release didn't have ANY English audio or subs... or is this a subsequent release?

EDIT: Never mind, I see this is a new release. A step in the right direction, but do we think an English audio version might get a physical media release given that there is an English streaming version?

P.S. How do you get the free shipping code? I only got the 15% code and have bothh configured an account (with SMS on) and signed up for the mailing list.

It's possible, though as someone who doesn't always like doing the reading, the subtitled version wasn't bad.

Even watching it when I was tired it wasn't hard to follow, which is one of my usual issues watching subtitled films (keeping up with the reading and watching the movie).

To each their own.

Given the film's popularity, I'm sure it will probably get a wide release with an all of the above option at some point.

I signed up for the email alerts/account and then sms. Free shipping code went to my phone and 15% went to my email account.

Also read the details fully for the release. Outside of the English subtitles for the film all the disc supplements have no subs and the book is in Japanese. I'm getting it for the 4k and display of the case myself.

Same. Subs don't bother me and the case is gorgeous. US$60 shipped is on par (actually cheap comparatively speaking) for new Japanese releases.

If an English-dub 4K physical release happens down the line, I'll probably get that too, but at this point there's no guarantee that will occur, so this is better than the initial Japanese release IMO.

Sorry was replying while doing something else, to be more specific some disc supplements are Japanese audio only with NO subs so keep that in mind.

Same for me (so far, at least). I got the "reply YES to receive updates" text pretty fast, and the "thanks for signing up" text right away after that, but no text with a free shipping code yet. The 15% off email code did arrive quickly.

Thanks. They should update the web site prompt, then, so that it doesn't mention free shipping when it asks for the phone number.

(Edit: I found the other thread and see the discussion about the free shipping code that some folks got after texting GODZILLA to a phone number. In my case, I gave them my phone number on their web site after first giving them my email address. The prompt for the phone number specifically mentioned free shipping, hence my complaint above.)
