Theres' a pretty desperate sounding thread in the HDdvd software thread now at AVS telling all owners to BUY, BUY, BUY!!!! so that they will then hopefully release more content! With a good percentage saying, "Screw that! Give me some content I want, THEN I'll buy!"

^^ A pretty simple concept that goes right over the heads of a lot of those same HD-DVD zealots.

I just chuckled to myself the other night when I fired up Invincible on BD (good movie, btw) and saw that opening montage from Disney, a huge BD exclusive powerhouse studio if ever there was one, and the beautiful HD ads for such EXCLUSIVE titles like Pirates of the Caribbean and the rest of it.

No amount of FUD or "Wishing Upon a Star" nonsense can get past concrete facts like these. People will see it. People will buy it.

And there's nothing HD-DVD, MS, and Toshiba can do about it, especially when their lone exclusive studio, Universal, has essentially left them hanging in the breeze for all intents and purposes.

Amir seems getting more and more desperate recently (actually, since last Summer, when he demoted) ...

Its particularly sad when he is now one of the "Good post!" trolls invading a lot of threads. It was ok for losers like Midnight Watcher and the like to do it, but a VP of microsoft now chiming in, pathetic. I hope he has that resume ready!

Man, I went to check out the AVS forums because it gets mentioned as a home for crazies so often here and I just about rolled out of my chair when some yahoo said that you can't tell if someone is using the PS3 as a DVD or BD player just because they bought the DVD remote for it. That many people who don't even own a PS3 are probably buying them just as an impulse item.

Those guys are just haters. Straight up haters. And that's the only thing worse than a fanatical fanboy.

Anyone remember when the MS boys were pointing out how Toshiba would continue to add great features to the A1/XA1?

Amir, going along with what Ben was just talking about, do you know if it's feasible to firmware upgrade the first gen Toshibas to allow a choice of DTS or DD re-encode over SP/DIF?

Sorry bozos, we don't bother with the previous gen. Buy something else.

Nice.

A reaction:

Sorry losers, we didn't make enough so you don't mean anything now.

Just like every other generational shift. But, they were so boasting this wouldn't be the case for Toshiba. People now realize they are stuck with the problems, and any new ideas won't come their way.

They are giving their faithful a chance to make a new choice.

And another:

we've all been pretty paitient and it's frustrating to say the least that the 2nd gen players have been out for, what, a month and they're getting a fix for the same issues that have plauged us 1st gen owners since last summer.

it's really starting to piss me off.
Ah, but just wait until the Chinese start popping out cheap stuff with little Q/A, then the problems will disappear. And we'll tell you to go stuff it on the G2 issues.

And the weasling about HDMI on Xbox 360 continues:

Now, I am not saying it is bad to have HDMI. I personally wish the 360 had it. But I don’t run that P&L and the Xbox folks are pragmatic and go where the market is (which last year when the box launched, clearly had more component connections in the installed base than HDMI).

And if you have a TV with a single HDMI, you can save that for something else and use the component for 360.
Notice he doesn't answer the question? He never says outright whether the XBox 360 can or can not have HDMI added.

Oh, the mess is going to hit the fan later this year.

One could argue that his position IS political. Corporate politics are no different from government. Indeed, he's been "campaigning" for HD DVD a long time now.

If the G2 360 has HDMI, it will be yet another FU to the early adopters (whether it is 4.5M (NPD) or 10M (propoganda central)).

It will be even worse if there are other changes that make the games play better like better memory or 'larger optical disc capacity'

They are talking new hardware after only a year ... if I owned a 360 I would be really pissed.

As the saying goes: Damned if you do and damned if your don't.

My guess: They'll wait too see what happens with the PS/3 launch in the UK + Europe. If it is big, they'll revamp and add the HD DVD drive. They'll offer a $100 trade-in for current owners (that's $1 billion, yikes!).

Zoinks!!! The PS3 sure is screwing up a lot of other companies plans. Makes the Wii look even smarter for not going HD yet.

I did hear about that, talk about buying good publicity, I just hate that bloggers have lost their integrity because they see a pimped out laptop, they say they are above normal journalists, but are they really?

On community managers, why do you think Amir is even posting on AVSF, he is there to spread MS propaganda and trick people into thinking that Sony are evil and want to eat their babies and that MS will save them and vanquish the evil Sony.
