Bought for $22 at Target.com on Cyber Monday (or maybe it was Black Friday, I forget).

I'm glad I bought this. The bonus material, while short, clarifies the "in HD" in the title. 4K digital using a RED camera. Sources are primarily 8 and 16 mm film. The result is blown up and cropped for 16x9 framing.

I finished the first two discs. It appears that they were working with better film on the second disc, probably because it was shot later in the war. The quality of the German source footage seems the best.

It is moving to see the emotion demonstrated nearly 70 years after the fact, by the veterans featured in this release. Less than 10% of these men and women are still alive today.

Next up is disc 4, The Air War, featuring Andy Rooney. We have lost him as well.

Re disc 4. Stretching was noticible on this disc. Also in some scenes on disc 3 Iwo Jima. I'm still not clear on the reason for the stretching. It seems to me they could have cropped it for 16x9 as they did on disc 1 and 2. I would speculate that it was 8 mm footage that was stretched. Does anyone know?
