I would only pick this up if the past mistakes get corrected. Going to wait and see if there’s reviews with some positive news or screenshots.

Agreed. It's inexcusable to re-release this again with the same critical mistakes they made the first time around. It should have been recalled and fixed the first time around.

This is a missed opportunity. I sold my old set due to these issues. If they had fixed them this time around, I would buy it. Alas, I'm pretty sure they did nothing to correct these issues.
From what I remember, not all episodes suffered from incorrect black levels? I seem to remember the first couple of discs didn't have this problem?

I need to rewatch the entire series again sometime. Perhaps the "RGB trick" will make the issue less apparent...

I can't remember now if all episodes had it or just some discs. I dind't watch the full set. I do remember the colors and blacks being very washed out in general. The DVDs look far better in terms of color and black levels, though of course resolution and compression is much worse. And of course all the extras on the blu-rays are stretched to 16:9 - a mind-boggling mistake (or choice - whichever it was).

I still own that complete DVD collection (which was expensive as hell for me by importing them from the US). The BD collection wasn't exactly cheap either.

I think it wasn't after the first couple of Blu-ray discs after which the incorrect black levels started to appear.

Ironically, KOR was my first RS order and almost as soon as listed (still waiting) so I wasn’t aware of their track record. I’m used to early from boutique labels but this is early!

Got my set today. The extras disc has the correct aspect ratio.
Amazon's shipping busted my set, the Blu-ray cases themselves are broken and the outer box is slightly dented in the corner, but thankfully the discs are apparently intact. I'll just get new cases for the discs and be done with it.

Awesome news about the extras (although sorry about the cases)

Great to hear about the corrected aspect ratio for the extras.

Has the black level been fixed for the episodes?

Hey guys and gals, first-time poster here and joined the forum specifically for this thread, as I'm a big Gatchaman fan and was recently planning on giving the series a re-watch after having originally watched it as ADV was releasing their DVDs in the mid-2000's (wow, it's been a while).

Saw this set on Amazon Prime for $99.49 shipped. However, I already own the complete ADV DVD set. I was on the fence after reading the review of the original 2013 Blu-Ray release that stated that the extras disc had busted aspect ratios and I'm glad to hear that it's been fixed for this release, but I still haven't heard if the alleged black level issue has been fixed as well.

Anyway, long story short, would it be worth it upgrade to the new Blu-Ray set, or should I just stick with my DVDs? I'm not an insane videophile, but if there's a significant difference in image quality I think it would be worth it, especially with the OVAs, movie, and artbook included. I'm very torn, so any opinions, information, or video quality comparison between the two sets would be welcomed.

Also- if I DID upgrade to the Blu-Ray set, I'd probably try and sell off my original complete ADV DVD set. Any idea what that might go for these days on ebay? I looked for completed listings but apparently no one's sold the set recently.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I don't have the Blu-Ray yet, but I saw it streaming in HD and it looked pretty good. I don't know if it's heads and toes above the DVD as I haven't watched it in a while but I wouldn't be disappointed buying it (I only have two DVDs so I'm definitely getting the Blu-Ray when I can afford it ) I read earlier in the forum that this new set has the extras in the correct aspect ratio.

As for selling it on ebay, don't sell it for more than it would've been sold for in retail. I've seen DVD sets selling a $1000 and I wanna be sick. For the entire DVD set (which I THINK was 16 discs), maybe $80-$100 and even THAT might too much. Best guess, under the $100 the Blu-Ray's selling for because the price has to be good to give up on HD.

Yeah, the extras no longer being stretched is a big deal. But I'm really curious about the supposed black levels issue as I don't recall the Blu-Ray.com review of the 2013 set mentioning any problems regarding that. Perhaps it's just subjective? Is there anyone who has seen both who can chime in here?

Hmm, you make a good point. Sometimes older sets/collectibles will sell for high prices because some collectors are completionists or just prefer the quality or presentation of a previous release, but I'll just be happy if I can make back what I spent on the Blu-Ray set. We'll see.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
