Argh.. I like the way the artwork has gone with these releases, but they don't appeal to me. The two that I was interested in were The Karate Kid and The fifth Element. The Karate Kid artwork looks good, sort of 80's looking, when posters were hand drawn, but not including the two main characters is from my point of view, a let down.

As for The Fifth Element, I am overall not keen on how it looks.

And yeah, it looks too green.

"Super green"!.

I think this entire wave is dissapointing. Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that they don't just use poster artwork or iconic art/images associated with the films?

Instead, these are like the kind of photoshopped fan art you see all over on fan-sites with original art inspired by movies. Some of them are kind of interesting but they don't really represent the film well enough to be used as steelbook artwork. It just seems like a major miss, IMO.

... and even things like the broken candy on the Kung Fu Hustle steelbook bother me. The film's sub-plot with that involved Chow's character putting it back together. Will artwork on the back reflect that? Or will it just be this 'punching apart' image? It's not what I would have used at least.

The ones that have UK/HK releases are superior, IMO.

Good point. The new artwork subverts the movie's message.

Same thing with The Karate Kid.

Must be some sort of elaborate prank.

I'm the same way. The only 2 crossed off my list, so far, are: District 9 and Despardo. The rest look quite amazing!

I'm liking a few of these. Will bite if the prices drop to $14.99.

The artwork works for some, but i really like all of these! Like the "Iconic Art" wave we are getting in November, i appreciate that these steelbooks have different covers rather than just slapping on the standard cover that are on the reg blus.

Come on Best Buy, BRING THESE TO US!!

Yeah, I prefer it when the steel book has a completely different cover than the standard cover. The more unique the better.

Yikes. Was about to pan the lot, but that Fifth Element steel looks pretty cool. If I didn't already have the UK steel w/Gaumont transfer I'd buy that one.

Any time I pay >$20 for a US steelbook, I'm quite happy.

I have that UK Fifth Element steel. While it has very nice art I think the frame and matte finish sort of ruins it. Would've been fantastic as a glossy.

BTW, I'm loving all of the Sony catalog steels, especially Das Boot. Will probably grab them all.

Yeah, plus it's region B, which was holding me back a little too. I'm just glad the Fifth Element steel is one of the two or three out of these I like. Most look like some kid just learned Adobe Illustrator and went to town creating his own covers without even watching the movies.
