These showed up today. They look awesome in person. I don't think anyone has mentioned the gloss finish - looks pretty nice on this release compared to the matte I usually see on the German steelbooks.

I don't think there was any doubt for the Region A folks - but they are indeed Region B locked.

The discs load, but you get a message in french, which I assume states - "this is a region B locked disc."

It actually says "You are not French enough to be granted access to this disc's content. Please change according to this picture in order to get full access:

It'll be tight, but it might cut it. Ask the BD.

Because you bought yours from FNAC and I bought mine from amazon.fr?

That seems to make sense.

I thought of that too and looked at the bottom - there's a slip of paper that has the UPC that is secured to the bottom with two pieces of tape.

Is yours the same way?

My slipcase is also 3 512391 144555, but individual cases have the same numbers as above. The bottom of the slipcase where the UPC is printed is a sticker. Phil, is yours the same way?

I bought mine at FNAC indeed, and they did have this one in circulation, in their stores-only, 2 weeks prior to the worldwide release.

The bottom of the slipcase is printed on the case and it isn't a sticker.

Up close pics:

I'll try to find a passage in Elvish to take a screenshot. I believe they'll have erased all the English burnt-in subtitles and just created some new ones for French and English.
Just saw some Elvish on Fellowship. I have the english subs turned OFF, and they still translate the Elvish with english subtitles.

So to answer the original question...yes, the subtitles are there for the Elvish dialogue when using the english track.

I'm terribly sorry for not checking, Andy. I thought I would have the chance to check out the movies, but I still need to find 3 and half hours to spare. :P

Received them also....AWESOME!!!!
It's a must have especially since each one of the films has a STEEL of its own.
Rare also in that regard, compared to the other STEELS.

No worries Phil - it wasn't for me any way - another member was very concerned about it.

I decided to put it on in the background while I folded laundry.

Cool. My set should arrive any day and I'll be all set - just swap out the cowboy hat for the beret for the evening, and I usually have a glass of wine at hand when watching movies in the evening - just need to pick up the baguettes, and some pate and camembert .

I didn't see a number like on the Dances With Wolves Digibook - I'll double check when I get home.

Hmmmm.
