I always find it funny when the inherent biases come straight to the front.
Anyway was reading the GameSpot review of Oblivion on PS3. They made made several direct comparisons to the 360 version and all were favorable for PS3: - Shading is better - Graphics in general are better - The "draw distance" is farther so you can see a longer distance when roaming around (which is really a big deal in a game like Oblivion because it's cool as hell to be on a mountain and see for miles and miles) - Gameplay is more fluid, less jittery - Much faster load times - Knights of the Nine expansion is built in PS3 Score - 9.5 X-Box 360 Score - 9.6 Not sure how that makes sense. they always build in this internal factor for how much better PS3 games should be given the capabilities. Can they ever just reveiw the game objectively? Unfortuantely I cannot access the GameSpot site from work so I won't paste it here, but it is easy to find. I just think it's lame. Score it for what it is, not what you think it should be. |

Most likely the 360 version was reviewed much earlier than the PS3's. So at the time it probably did diserve a 9.6 by whomever reviewed it, there wasn't the PS3 version to compare it to. I don't think I wrote what I'm trying to say here but you may get the point.

True but it always seems the high expectations on the PS3 end with a lower review. They are both next gen systems so they should be judged evenly but they never are.

And I do tend to trust Bethesda's execs when they say they have issues implementing it [mostly as I'm sure they want to milk the PS3 community like they've been milking the 360 + PC community on those :P]. What those issues may be, I have no clue, since Sony at least said [again said and truth may be different] that bandwidth and size will not be meaningfully constrained. |

Uhhh...I think oblivion was out for a year on the 360 and the pc before it came to the PS3. That could be one major reason why it didn't score higher. Why score a game that has been out over a year, higher than a game that people can get cheaper and about the same experiance???

Having owned both the PS3 and 360 version the experience really isn't the same. The PS3 version is more enjoyable due much much better load times, better framerates as well (still not perfect but noticably better than the 360 version which is a slide show when on horse).

Fresh-ness does happen with game releases, is it fair? Nah, but it's understandable. Which is why when you read reviews, you should read the content, and understand the context of where the metrics and complaints come from. |
