Default Receiver problem or not?

hey everybody, a friend of mine just got the pioneer vsx 919 which we hooked up to his polk audio rm6880 speakers and the volume level really needs to be cranked in order to really hear it, for instance i have last years pioneer 1018 and usually listen to blu-rays or tv at say -50db while to get that same level on his we need to hit -30db which i find to be ridiculous. my question is do we have something setup wrong maybe or should he return it and get another to see if its just the levels the receiver hits at, thanks in advance.

he has different speakers than you .... not a receiver issue....

I listen at -10 to -25 depending on when I'm watching, what, etc. My AVR is different, as are my speakers..... but his speakers must require more juice.

In addition to what Beta said, there could be other factors affecting the overall volume. For instance, have you both run Audyssey? Where did it set the individual speaker levels? For example, if yours are at +5, but his are at -5, that could make alot of difference. The room itself could be making a difference, his speakers might be less efficient than yours, etc. The list of possibilities goes on and on.

thanks for the replies guys, we both have run the mcacc setup and the levels are very similar as are our basement setups so it may be that his speakers do need more juice to push them and his speakers are better then mine as im just pushing logitech speakers and he his pushing the polk rm6880.
