Default Large Media storage recommendations

Hey Everyone, I am looking for a large media storage center to hold my 800 DVDs and about 60 BDs. Something with doors to protect my precious discs from my girlfriend's psycho dog

But, I also don't want to pay 700+ bucks for it.

Does anyone have any good experiences / recommendations?

Friend of mine has about 500, and he couldn't find a good solution that looked nice, so his interior designer mom built one using cabinets and drawers from Ikea. It looked pretty neat. Frosted glass doors covering 4 large floor standing cabinets. Think it was something like $200 in materials.

Basically it's just a few floor standing black bookshelves
Hinges
Doors (of whatever kind you might like)

It looked to me like it would easily hold a thousand discs. Just something to think about if you don't see anything pre-made.

I've been looking for something with doors(and possibly locks) that can hold 300 DVD/BD's for months and have come up with nothing so far.

Yea, I would definately like to have something like that. I have about 600+ and we keep them in bookshelves....for everyone to admire when they come over...but we are also opening ourselves up to everyone wanting to "borrow" them.
My wife and I are totally anal about people scratching our discs. Seems like no matter how careful we ask them to be, they still come backs scratched! We have stopped "borrowing" out our discs because of that.

i know what you mean, there's very few people i lend movies to. sometimes i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't store my discs face-down on sandpaper.

as far as a storage case goes, i think your best bet would be to find a suitable shelf and build doors for it.

It is funny you guys mentioned that. (lending out your disks).

I stopped doing that as well, even for family! I don't know what it is, but they seem to think there is nothing wrong with getting finger prints all over, lay them "data-side" down on the table, or drop them on the floor.

Hell, I don't even want my girlfriend touching my discs.
Of course, all of them always tell me "Don't worry, I will be careful with them". Yeah right !

Ok, so I have settled for a cabinet .... it doesn't quite fit my collection, but it comes pretty close.

This is what I ended up getting:
