60Hz vs. 120Hz - Blu-ray Forum

Is there really that much of a differance? I have a panny plasma and am looking to purchase a lcd. Are there certain brands that are better than others with just a 60hz refresh rate? thanks for your opinions

Well u are probably gonna hear many different sides to this,I personally have a sammy lcd where you can turn this option on or off but i personally like running 120hz as opposed to 60hz,however some people will say 60hz is better for movies and 120hz is only good for sports or action movies.Its all on preference i guess. What I would do is go to the store and compare 120 vs 60 and see what you think,thats the best thing to do. Otherwise i would say you would be fine with 60hz as it still looks unbelievable. Also depends on what u are looking to spend but i for one am a huge fan of Samsung Lcds!

Definately get the 120Hz. It matches the 24 fps that film is recorded at and it looks extremely smooth on blu-ray. Trust me, I have a 60Hz Samsung plasma and that jittering of 3:2 pulldown is very annoying, especially during camera pans. Worth the extra money in my opinion.

I think you are confusing the Motion Flow (or Motion Enhancer on Sonys) function with the refresh rate.

There is no way to turn "OFF" 120hz. Its the Motion enhancement you turn off. Such as "Auto Motion" or "MotionFlow". 120hz is always on. Some people can't see the difference but if your coming from a plasma which shows motion better it might be noticeable. Try to find an LCD with a low response time, like 2 to 4 milliseconds this will also improve the motion clarity. What is your budget... cuz if you need an LCD and you can afford it sometimes its just the piece of mind knowing you have the better model even if you don't see it now.... trust me, you'll spend all day looking for it if you don't.

I used to sell tvs; sometimes the difference is very noticeable but on regular broadcast stations I think the 120Hz makes the images look distorted. Awesome on Bds though...

A friend of mine recently bought a 46" samsung led lcd with 120 hz. Beautiful picture. Personally, i think the 120 hz gets some getting used to. I would only use it for blu ray, because it gives all tv programming a soap opera feel to it. by that i mean it feels like you're on the set watching the actors in person. Some like that clarity, to me, It takes away the film look.
