I have an 30 gig ipod from before they were called classic and I think its the most solid of any I have had. I have had Creative Zen players and my wife has a MS Zune... My ipod had taken a beating and never once had an issue...

I also have an iphone and an ipod classic, but when i go riding i wanted something small and won't have a melt down if it breaks. I think you can get a 1GB off the apple site for 49 or 59 I can't remember the exact price. clips right onto my break cable by the handle and can skip tracks, turn up the volume, etc etc without much movement.
