Does PS3 work with Netflix Streaming? - Blu-ray Forum

Can the PS3 work with Netflix on-demand service? I've been looking for a straight answer to this question but can't seem to find one.

I apologize if this issue has already been discussed in a thread. I did search but couldn't fine one. I would really appreciate a link.

No Netflix yet.
They have a exclusive with the 360.

You can get Netflix streaming to work on the PS3 using PlayOn Media Server however it is not officially supported on the PS3.

PlayOn runs on your computer and allows the PS3 to access netflix that way.

But you can't get the "HD" content through PlayOn to my knowledge.

Does your computer have to be on when streaming netflix to the PS3, or does it go through your router or something?

yes your computer has to be on, and you also have to meet the minimum requirements to get playon to work with it. Playon works as a 'bridge' to get to play your material on your current pc, to stream to your ps3.

Playon was worth it in my opinion as they also let you access hulu.com which just got blocked for ps3 users. They are also adding different plug INS for different channels 40 bucks a year.

PlayOn works incredibly well with PS3, and I recommend anyone interested in using the PS3 as a media server try it out.

Oh, and it does allow access to HD content through Netflix. I've been catching up on Heroes in HD, and it loads almost instantly.

I have tried to use Streaming services on the PS3 with Wifi, but the bandwidth seems to be an issue more often than not.

Tried playon, the service seems to be recognized istantly (TVersity isn't bad, but it is a bit more ... fidgety it seems).

I am unwilling to have a network drop across the house, so I'm going to look into Ethernet over powerline solutions, it seems it's rather cheap now (starter packs around $100).

I don't know how long Microsoft inked a deal with Netflix but I imagine it's a few years. The only way I know of is what cathexist had mentioned. I would also agree with cathexist that's it's not worth the $$$ for the program. There might be another, but I don't know about it.

You can't view anything from Sony/Columbia though can you? I think those are blocked on XBOX

You need a media server app like Play On to stream Netflix to the PS3.

I am watching Netflix Movies on my PS3 right now

You can even browse all the movies on netflix from your PS3/TV then select play. No need to have the PC hooked up to the TV at all, it works through Playon Media Server on your computer.

Computer -> Playon Media Server Software -> PS3 ->TV

Playon is awesome.. can watch much more than just Netflix through it.. can also do HULU, Amazon VOD, and a whole horde of other plugins to super wire your PS3 to the internet. Seems like new/updated plugins come out every week.

So the real answer is YES with a computer and PlayOn.
