Default THE COVE has made an impact!!!

http://popwatch.ew.com/2009/09/02/th...tops-in-taiji/

I'm so happy to hear this. If it is true, there has to be a maintained surveillance on this situation. Anyone who has seen the documentary will know that Dolphins may not be people too... but they sure as hell should be considered people too. Their level of consciousness rivals that of the human race. What was happening in Taiji was a holocaust of a different colour. It seems to have come to an end... for now at least.

I don't think I can get myself to watch this. All that suffering and death...

Glad to see a film make a difference.

Very cool! I hope it stops the killing of dolphins over there. I had no idea what was going on with this. Thanks for the information!

On a side note, not to be too nitpicky, level of consciousness has to do with how awake you are...like in a coma, fully awake or somewhere in between. Level of intelligence would be more appropriate in this description.

The death and suffering only really lasts for a few minutes towards the end of the film. The rest of the documentary is how they went about setting up their secret operation to acquire footage of the events that take place in the cove and the history of how the industry came to be so out of hand in the first place.

However, that few mintes towards the end is DEFINITELY harrowing! I have never looked away from the screen in a theatre before. And, even in this case, I forced myself to keep my eye on the screen as much as possible since it was to acquire the full understanding of the situation... painful, but necessary.

This might take best Doc. from the Academy next February. I don't see anything coming close to it.

Old thread revival I know, but it's for a good reason.

Just watched this tonight and anyone who hasn't yet seen this movie needs to. It's difficult to watch at times but I think people should know and see what happens in the world.

takepart.com/thecove has great info and you can do what you can there to help.

Amazing Film and very much worthy of it's Oscar Win.

I gave this a rent and I have recommending this to everyone I know. After seeing this, I vowed to never support any aquariums that has dolphins again. I also told myself I would never eat fish again but after having some great sushi at my local restaurant, I can't do it, I just love sushi.

Thanks for the post OP. I've seen many documentaries, and I still consider this the best one I've ever seen. Great story, great pacing, incredibly important issue, and the single most affecting and stand-up-and-clap ending I've ever seen, documentary or regular film.

Now if only the Japanese could stay civil and humane. Their treatments of animals and their hunting culture is just disgusting. This film made me want to throw up, and I have seen some terrible things before, but I am never surprised by the Japanese. That culture just does horrible things to animals....

The documentary Earthlings touched upon the whole Dolphin killing and my God, man. That was some horrible s***. Seeing them flop around as they are dying. I think in my mind, I was screaming out; "F***!" about every five seconds.
