Penton on the Insiders page basically said Sony would be switching to DTS-HD MA now. I think some older titles held back will still have Dolby TrueHD.

Yes this is true Snatch is using this codec, now I'm wondering which codec Terminator Salvation will use. Either way I don't care, both are good.

I wonder if the banter on the "Should Sony use DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD?" poll thread caught their attention at all. This is the "go-to" Blu-ray Disc website, with thousands of active members at any given time, and a great deal of serious BD audio discussion takes place here. The poll figures are pretty solid in showing that, all technical comparison aside, there was significant preference for DTS-HD Master Audio.

FWIW, I voted that it wouldn't matter to me either way.

I think in the end, sales figures mattered the most. Blu-ray purchasers have almost always preferred DTS over Dolby.

Although I'm with the "lossless is lossless" minority (believing that other factors, both physical and imagined, contribute to the DTS-HD MA poll preference), I do admit that in my DVD buying days, I liked seeing a DTS audio option. It was the superior sounding codec for lossy multichannel DVD sound.

Perfect proof fans are what are convining studios to make little changes. I found it odd that people are promoting a less efficient codec over a codec that is pretty much the same quality. Of course I don't have an AV receiver to have lossless audio (I'm thinking of replacing my PS3 with a stand alone player with multichannel analog inputs though).

So sony (I just wanted to say this), how about giving us that caption input option you promise us CIH owners?

I think it was mostly done for the people that are bitstreaming. The DTS core you get is of higher quality than the standard Dolby Digital track you're getting when there's a TrueHD track on the disc.
