Default The Prisoner: UK vs US Blu editions

DVD Beaver has put up a comparison of the UK vs US editions of this classic series:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...er_blu-ray.htm

They had previously RAVED about the Region-B UK transfer and had speculated whether the US version (released by A&E) would be as good. Looks like their (and our) fears can be put to rest. (Though the US packaging and artwork are not as nice as the UK's--but the pricing reflects that.) Good preorder price at Amazon now (about $50).

Does anyone who works at Wal-Mart or Target know whether either store will be carrying this? It seems unlikely but I just want to be sure.

Looks outstanding! While I admittedly like the UK packaging more, after looking at those captures, the US version could come in paper sleeves for all I care.

I honestly doubt Wal*Mart would, since the show seems to be too much of a niche title for them to carry. Target would probably be a bit more likely, but not much more likely.

The FYE I work at should be getting it, but that's because I placed a pre-order there for it (before I ended up ordering it off Amazon).

I love the first dozen or so, before McGoohan got the LSD dropped in his teacup

I guess the rest of us have already responded in all the other threads here and on other sites.

If I can get a good-enough deal on this, i'm going for it.

But yeah, I doubt Wal-Mart will carry it seeing as how it's a somewhat obscure title, and Wal-Mart pretty much only goes for well-known mainstream films/shows/etc.

This will be very hard to find maybe in a store I would imagine. Future Shop might actualy have that here in Canada, they surprise me sometimes. Depending on the price I will probably get this from Amazon.ca.

I am very happy the USA release is just as good as the UK one, plus I prefer the packaging of the USA release

My Wal-Mart carries a bunch of obscure and expensive titles so I wouldn't be so sure.

Best Buy will surely have it but I like to avoid shopping there whenever possible.

Of course, given that so many department store chains are expanding their Blu-Ray sections, finding it at Wal-Mart may not be out of the question after all.

I'd despair about Wal-Mart getting ANY prestige boxset that doesn't have a mainstream studio...
But isn't late October getting close to the DeepDiscount November sale?

I've never seen a single episode of this, but i will be buying it because Magoohan rocks. Also, Iron Maiden did a pretty badass song based on this series.

Even IF Walmart were to carry this title, i wouldn't spend my hard earned money when(at least in the New England area/western MA. in particular)the stores don't even bother price matching the competition any more and if a competitor's lower price isn't of a brick and mortar store and IN a print ad, they will NOT price match, nevermind beating competition's prices.I go down to the next town over a couple miles down the road and Target and Best Buy are BOTH excellent about beating each other's prices AND Walmart's prices, (usually as long as the other stores are carrying the Blueray)....never had trouble if one was out of stock. My local Target, and Best Buy stores even price match Amazon, which Walmart also refuses to do.Imo Walmart customer service(what little there was)has all but gone extinct because of their arrogance. The local stores cannot even manage to get new releases out on Tuesday anymore(usual excuse being that their "DVD people" doesn't come in until 10am in the morning). It's gotten to the point that many folks won't even shop in the local W's for other products/food anymore since their prices on almost everything has gone up to equal or exceed their other local competition, not to mention the nonexistant customer service.

Thanks for the heads up. Propably the only foreign series that I am interested on.

I've never seen it either, but after watching The Simpsons, season 12 episode, "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes," I'm tempted to get it.

Try some for free...It's a better show than The Simpsons:

(McGoohan just had so much more bad-boy secret-agent cool than that guy in the AMC series.)

I am not a number - I am a free man!

Now seriously, I'm definitely going for the UK edition, in a couple of months.

Amen to that. Always great to meet a fellow Maiden fan on here.

I haven't watch the series at all aside from bits and pieces but I'm willing to buy it based on reviews and reputation alone. Those DVDBeaver screencaps pretty much seal the deal.

Go up to settings: Site prefs and make sure you have UK selected or just click the flag before you search for it.
