Default Best Actor Last 100 Years?

This list is just off the top of my head so I know I may have forgotten some deserving people, and there are probably people on here that dont deserve it in peoples opinions and thats fine, because I think there are some as well, but people will probably vote for them...anyways

LET THE VOTING BEGIN!!!

Nicholas Cage? Really?

I still say Marlon Brando, with Daniel Day Lewis coming in at a close second.

Yeah, hard with a list like that. I picked Daniel Day Lewis because he's amazing. Robert Deniro is right there as well, imo

If we're only supposed to choose one actor, I do think Brando was one of the finest actors in the history of Hollywood...that doesn't mean the others aren't incredible as well (and all of the ones you listed--and most in the poll--all had exceptional talent). To me, Brando just embodies what acting is about..completely absorbing yourself in the role (largely because of his method acting style, which had a considerable impact on his performances).

Edit: Honestly though, it doesn't make any sense to put one above all the rest...like you said Rock, there are so many amazing actors....not sure what the point of having to choose just one is

My current favorite living and performing actor is Dustin Hoffman. But as far as the greatest actor in the last 100 years, I would probably have to say Laurence Olivier star of stage and screen.

By the way where are Peter O'toole, Richard Burton, Richard Harris, and John Hurt for this list?

Rich

I didnt want people voting for too many people, and I agree with you on Brando being above and beyond all the rest, thats where my vote went, hell even my dog is named after him

Tough choice, but out of the listed actors, I picked Humphrey Bogart.

Some actors that weren't included, but are some of my favorites: Edward G. Robinson (if he had been included, he would have won top spot. One of the greatest and most versatile actors of all time -- and easy to parody, too), Peter Lorre, Robert Ryan (always great playing a psychopath), and Richard Basehart (a very underrated and versatile actor).

Outside of the classic era, I like the actors from the 70's the best: Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and Gene Hackman.

I'd also like to give a special nod to Buster Keaton, because he brought subtly to comedic acting.

That's who I voted for!

As far as current fave's....I'm a huge Sean Penn fan. He gets a bum rap, but he's a great actor in my opinion.

Hi John,

Good choice. And his 2nd wife Vivian Leigh wasn't too bad an actress in her own right.

Wow, what an impossibly difficult choice. I think you included most of the ones you should have Rockchalk, except you left off Peter O'Toole. No worries.

I chose De Niro because it is hard to top his performances in Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Godfather II, and The Deer Hunter. I think the roulette scene in The Deer Hunter is the greatest acting performance, scene-wise, I have ever seen. Other top choices would be Brando, Pacino, and Laurence Olivier. I think overall, Olivier is probably the finest actor ever. His ability to convey Shakespeare is mind-boggling. In terms of modern actors, Day-Lewis is hands-down the finest. His only problem is that he does not have a large body of work. That is a pro and a con.

I love Denzel and think he is an extraordinary actor, but this list is for "best" actor of the last 100 years, not "favorite." Not too sure how he can be chosen as the best, over the ones previously mentioned.

Exactly, there is always someone you won't remember but I think you did a good job. Yes, O'Toole was an omission but would anyone really pick him? Yes he was good in Lawrence of Arabia, but as much as I love that movie, I think his performance was a bit overrated. With the other actors listed, it would be tough for anyone to pick him.

You said you picked Brando---what is your favorite role of his?
