Question for all MADDEN (or just plain FOOTBALL) game fans...

does anyone remember playing Madden when it first came out on Genesis? (or Super Nintendo) I think it was 91? or 92? or even 90? My favorite part of any sports game I've ever played is contained there within. I don't remember the version, but it was one of the earliest installments. It contained the "Highlights from Other Games" feature. During the halftime show or at the end of the game, it would jump to 'real time' action from other games going on around the league complete with a ticker board. If the Bangles missed a game winning field goal against the Browns with 10 seconds to go, it would play that. or if the Bills scored a touchdown against the raiders to end the game, it would show that. I seriously looooved this feature and wondered every year with great frustration (and anticipation that it would be back) why they ever got rid of that? it added a huge amount of realism to the game...and its been something I've been looking for in every yearly Football release to date (Madden or not). anyone know what I'm talking about? or is anyone aware of a game that has gone there yet? i mean with PS3 capabilities i dont see why this hasnt been reimplemented?

I know what you're talking about. It was Madden 92. I'm almost certain of it. But ESPN NFL 2K5 had the ideas you were talking about. They had it set up so it would show halftime and post-game highlights of your game, but during the week, it would show highlights of the other games of the past week in a Sportscenter setting. That's what irks me about EA Sports and Madden. You have the NFL license and the ESPN license, so why not use them to your advantage? You could have it so that the radio announcer guy does regular games but for MNF, have Tirico, Jaws and TK do the commentary. And show the highlights too. Also, make the SB, playoffs and opening weekend an event like they are in real life. And have all the uniforms(i.e., alternate jerseys and throwbacks) there from the beginning and not have us pay for a download.

I got more ideas too. Such as, I know in Denver whenever the opponents don't complete a pass, the crowd says incomplete and that's in there, but how about the fight songs such as Fly, Eagles, Fly or Hail To The Redskins? Or the retired numbers for each team or if the team doesn't retire numbers, the ones they don't issue off of general principle? It would suck to see someone wear #12 in Pittsburgh when you know that #12 is Terry Bradshaw's number. Hell, for my hometown team(Redskins), it would be a crime if someone wore #28 (Darrell Green), #44(John Riggins), #7(Joe Theismann), #9(Sonny Jurgenson, although someone did wear it during Spurrier's time and you see how that turned out), you get the idea. Just use the licenses to your favor and live up to the if it's in the game, it's in the game motto.

Hopefully we will see improvements like this in future versions. Madden has been stagnant for a couple of years and I'm sure they know it from all the talk that has circulated.

Be careful when you say "football". To the rest of the world, that means soccer

Although I am English, I refer to "American Football" as Football. Have been an Eagles fan for years. Last year I managed to go to San Francisco the same day that the Eagles played the 49'ers.....the wife made us go to Alcatraz instead, sucks to be me.

I would be interested in the tournament perhaps.
