PS3 Slim-Game Save Files - Blu-ray Forum

For several reasons we are selling our 40 gig ps3, and getting a 250 gig slim this Christmas. I'm looking for a forum topic on saving PS3 game files. I'm playing MW2 and Demons Souls right now and want to make sure I can carry over my save files to my new system. Is this possible? Say I was halfway through a game...could I save the game file on a hard drive and then download it to my new system and continue playing?

I think Demon's Souls save is locked on the specific console and can't be copied over.

Only way to transfer copy protected saves is to use the backup utility. It will transfer everything, but you won't be able to transfer those locked saves to a new console, only the initial console it was created on (comes in handy when upgrading your hard drive).

Basically the save is locked on the 40GB console and it won't let you transfer that save to the 250GB, even if you log on your PSN account.

I hate how developers actually lock the save file to the console itself rather than your account.

Other then that, unlocked saves can be copied to a USB drive or memory stick.

Moving over game saves is possible, yes, although the only hiccup might be if the developers prohibit game save copying. It happens. Killzone 2 and Rock Band are two examples. I don't have MW2 or Demon Souls, so I can't verify (maybe someone else can).

If this happens, you can do a backup onto an external hard drive (althought you have to back up EVERYTHING-- videos, music, etc.), and then restore to the new system.

Go to it, press triangle, and try to copy it. It will tell you it's prohibited if it is. If it doesn't, you can copy it to any kind of drive, or another user's game save folder.

Is InFamous locked too? It disappeared after I used the backup utility.
