Default The speaker company - 2 choices

I am setting up a 3.1 setup, my first venture into home theater. I have a low budget so this is what I am working with. I have ordered the Denon AVR-1610 receiver, its on its way. I plan on getting this sub from TSC http://www.thespeakercompany.com/ASW...er-P62C17.aspx.
One question I have is what kind of wire do I use to hook the sub up, do they use normal speaker wire or do I need a special cable for it?

Now the main question is there, hopefully anyone who has experience with these speakers can chime in. This will be for left/center/right.
Option 1.
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/LCR...rs-P41C37.aspx

Option 2.
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/RC1...er-P38C37.aspx and http://www.thespeakercompany.com/P6-...ir-P37C37.aspx

Which would sound better? I plan on adding maybe a pair of the P5 or P6 at a later date for rears, but that could be over a year off, after we move out of this apartment.

in regards to option 1, yes those would be your left, center, and right speakers. either option would be good. It is nice to always have 3 identical speakers up front for the best timbre matching, the bookshelves (P6s) will give you a little better bass response, but I don't think you would ever notice it with your crossovers set anyways.

I guess I am saying that I would rather have the LCR system.... That sub looks decent enough. If you can search for the Energy ESW-V8 on www.wwstereo.com, it is about $199 or so, and it would be a little better of a sub for not much more money...

I have never heard these speakers as they are an internet direct brand. I would just check on the return policy in case you don't like them once you get them.

Good Luck.

Thanks, yeah these speakers get good reviews over on AVS forums, its actually where I was recommended them. As far as the sub, I think it will be ok for me and I really am going over what the wife wants me to spend anyways with just this. Thanks for the suggestion on the LCR system though, thats what I am leaning towards, good to have some input from more knowledgable people.

Sure thing, may be a few weeks before I get it all setup, ordered the Denon receiver today and will order the speakers tommorow, I imagine with turkey day coming up I probably wont receive most of it until early next week, then I gotta make the time to set it up...hopefully by next weekend at the latest.

Hey OP, I have the P6-PR and the RC1, I use them in my 7.1 setup in my bedroom.

Ok, how can I begin. I think for you to appreciate this speakers, you have to understand they are budget solutions. The P6-PR are pretty good, and they have enough bass for their size and price. The mids are good. The real problem with is the highs, which are clearly lacking. When glass breaks, or any other high-pitch sound kicks in, you clearly see the limitations as the sound is weak and not detailed.

The RC1 suffer from the same problem as the P6-PR, but to a bigger degree. Dialogue is clear, but feels weak. You might have trouble hearing voices in movies like Transformers, where dialogue is not as well defined. However, movies like 300, where the sound is more balanced, you will find the RC1 pretty good.

Also, the DAC you use makes this speakers sound differently, so at least they are good enough for anyone to notice the difference between them. I currently run them with my Onkyo SR-606 using Audyssey (digital only). For my particular setup, Audyssey really makes the P6-PR shine, since it sounds more dynamic and detailed than any of my soundcards while in DIRECT MODE. However, that's at the expense of my center channel sounding weaker. I've done the test like 10 times, in different houses even, and the result is always the same.
In the other hand, while using DIRECT MODE, connected from the HDAV1.3 Deluxe from my computer which has a burr-brown DAC, it really makes the center channel more detailed. Voices and glass breaking feels stronger, but of course, within the limitations that I mentioned at first. But of course, my LEFT and RIGHT channels suffer in DIRECT MODE, since I don't get the benefits from Audyssey. The point is, the speakers are good enough, that if upgrade your receiver or soundcard, you will be able to notice the benefits, which is not always the case with budget speakers.

Anyways, the speakers are good, considering their cost. They won't be a bass heavy as towers, so you definitely need to get a subwoofer is you plan to use them for movie watching. Music wise, they are awesome, depending on the type of music you like. Pop music, like Taylor Swift, sounds really good since the bass never reaches the limit of the speakers, so it sounds almost identical with or without the added subwoofer. However, music by Lil Wayne for example, makes you realize they are bookshelves.

Overall, I think they are a solid buy, I just wish the highs were a little bit stronger and the center channel a little bit stronger too.

Advice: Can you afford the the step up? The ones with aluminum woofers? I know they have a massive discount on the P Series, but I feel that you might be happier with the T Series if you plan to use them in a long term. I have not tried the T Series myself, but they're suppose to be better, which I think is the added push the P Series needs to really bring a full smile to your face. If not, then the P Series is a steal, they are supper cheap, way cheaper than what I paid for mine originally.

Ok, I hope that helps.
