Post Home Theater Speaker Setup Questions

Hi Again I know this might sound like a newbie questions but I need your help please, I am ready to buy speaker wire from Monoprice I am going to by the following products below but I know the length I need already but not how many cables I need (Ex. How many Speaker cables are required for a 7.1 Setup)

I also have a couple of questions down below

1.Speaker Wire

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

2. Sub Woofer Cable

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

4. Sub Woofer Y Splitter

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

2.I know I don’t have two subs but the Sub I bought has two inputs and I want to have them both connected so is the product above what I need to do this?

3.All of my speakers have two banana style Inputs which I already bought but my two left and right speakers have four inputs so can I use the product below for the front speakers I heard this type of cable degrades the sound quality?

To answer your first question, as long as the Y-adapter has one female input and two male outputs, you're fine.

For the second question on speakers, you need to decide whether you are going to bi-amp you front speakers or not. Bi-amping is a setup that allows you to connect the front L/R outputs of your receiver, and usually the rear surround outputs of your receiver to your front speakers. Some say this allows for better clarity and output, some say it is negligible at best. It's up to you to decide. The 4-conductor wire would allow you to bi-amp your front speakers though, so if you decide to do that, by all means get it.

You need 7 sets of speaker wires for 7 speakers. The subwoofer cable and Y adapter are fine. No, Monoprice does not carry a Y adapter.
The four inputs on your front speakers are for bi-amping. You'll probably NOT do this. DO NOT buy the four conductor speaker wire. Use the same 2 conductor wire as you mentioned before. If you look closely, there will probably be jumpers connecting the two pairs. If not, you need to look for them in your boxes. If they are there, leave them connected and you can hook your speakers up to either pair of connectors that you desire. Hook 'em up and have fun !!!

Get the 100 foot spool ! 12AWG or 14AWG wire . To much is better than not enough . The extra you may need later .

Make sure you cut the lengths for the front L/R the same & do that with the surrounds as well

Post Y Splitter Question

If I buy the Y Splitter listed above I would also have to buy a second Sub Cable to connect the other input that's on my sub so will the sub cable listed above work with the y Splitter that's listed above?

As noted by dewd, a splitter is not necessary. Here's the one you would buy if you want one.

Default novice blu-ray and surround sound question

I already have a nice 5.1 channel panasonic hometheater system, however, I want to purchase a blu-ray player for my high-def panasonic viera tv. If I buy a blu-ray player by itself and hook it up to my existing sound system, will I receive all the benefits of the high-def blu-ray or do I need to purchase a new home theater system? Any help would be greatly appreciated, my knowledge of this subject is not very extensive. Thanks!

I'm guessing it's a older HTiB, so chances are it won't be able to play the latest HD codecs.

Do you happen do have the model number, so that I can check to be sure?
