Beta, that didn't actually answer his question. I would hazard the guess that it's neither. Traditional bi/di poles surrounds focus more on room reflections of mids and highs as lower frequencies has a natural omnidirectional quality about them already. With this speaker the woofers (which are quite large) are positioned to disperse the sound. However there doesn't seem to be any information if their wall mounted surrounds have their woofers wired in or out of phase. The best thing to do is just ask the company, I'm sure they have a support number or email. If they are in phase, it's dipole it it's out of phase it's bipole, but the highs and mids depending on the crossover point will still be monopole. Dipole will create a null area near the walls and at the center of the speaker creating a figure 8 dispersion of the sound so most of what you'll hear is the room reflections. Bipole will not have any nulls and creates a slight distortion from the phase delay but can be more encompassing then dipoles.

This is a really odd design, contradicting the usual multipole designs for surrounds. I would love to hear them in person to see how they stack up. I would guess because of the size of the enclosure and the size of the drivers that they would be wired as bipoles. However, that's just hazarding a guess.

I see we have some Portland and Bellevue people here. Let me know if you are ever around Seattle, we should meet up.

Blue, did you put a clear coat over the finished veneer on your speakers and subs?

That statement in bold is not correct.

Correction: If they are in phase, they are BIPOLE. If they are out of phase, they are DIPOLE.

Default Recommend me a good speaker!!!

I'm in the market for a decent pair of surrounds right now, probably bipoles but something that would switch between di-and bi-pole would be even better! Any good recommendations for a pair for around $400 or less?

I'm actually selling a pair of bipoles for 300, the Definitive BP2X Bipole Surround Speakers. They work great, only reason I'm getting rid of them is because I bought some ones that timbre matched my front speakers better. I can say this much tho, the Definitive's are much more encompassing then the more expensive ones I just bought. I almost decided to keep them over the newer ones I got. They haven't been abused, they are in good condition and sound great.
