I think we are going to see these type of announcements often as more and more stores do this, no retail store is going to hold fast on HD-DVD if they see support falling all around.

I think that we are seen the beginning of the end for HD DVD. Obviously, the format will be available through specialized distribution channels for a while. But it is becoming evident to the mayor US retailers that Blu-Ray is the winner!

but then again.......none of this really matters right? because no one actually goes to these stores, or the people who do don't own hdtvs or are to dumb to figure them out, right? I wonder what the HD camp's reactions will be to all of this.

''sony pays them all off''
''no one shops there''
''anyone who does shop there doesn't buy or understand hidef''
''target, blockbuster, & bj's are dying, not hd dvd stupid.''

These defections from HD-DVD will become an epidemic. Retailers watch what other retailers are doing. No retailer wants to waste precious shelf space on duplicate products and they don't want to have to order and inventory more different items than necessary. Once the flood gates open on switching to one format, it will go crazy. I suspect we're there now.

I wonder if the HD-DVD Promotion Group calls these retail stores after these announcements and desperately asks them, "Hey, what's going on? I thought we had a good thing going.." They must try and do a last minute anti-ditch effort. I can't relate when I lose a policy to another independent insurance agent, and then follow up with one last hope.

what i'm worried about is some retailer may break the trend and say ''we can fill the niche left by all these retailers offering only blu ray''. it may not save hd dvd but it would drag it out that much longer.

That would be Tuesday Morning's plan as well as the plan of my local flea market.

This is definitely yet another sign that Blu-ray is taking over.
I have not heard any news about any store going HD-DVD exclusive, and I think that shows you something now that 3 major chains have gone Blu.

Default BJ's Wholesale to back Blu-ray exclusively

I got this from TG Daily. GO BLU http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/33110/118/

Recommend article:Boston (MA) - According to trade publication Video Business, East Coast wholesale club BJ's plans to get rid of its entire HD DVD selection from all 170 retail stores.

By the fourth quarter, the chain reportedly plans to have all HD DVD space removed as it focuses exclusively on Blu-ray. Athough BJ's Wholesale Club is not a huge retailer, it is noteworthy because it's the first chain store to actually remove an existing stock of HD DVD.

Target and Blockbuster have both announced Blu-ray exclusivity, but neither had previously fully supported HD DVD at their retail locations. Like Target and Blockbuster, BJ's will reportedly continue to sell HD DVD products from its online store.

To the CEO of Walmart what are you waiting for. Go Blu

It's mine, but luckily no ban. They actually just ignored it but that might be because it was the last post on a page and got quickly burried. Feel free to use it anytime anyone wants. I have the bandwidth...kinda like Blu-ray.
