Default Help: Sony 360 "invalid" message; won't play BD

i have 2 360s, each attached to a panny plasma. one in the living room i've had for about 4-5 months with no issues. the other is 3 weeks old and was originally hooked up to an insignia LCD and at that time played BDs and DVDs. the LCD crapped out in short time (that's another story) and until i could replace it had the player hooked up to a 27" tube tv. player continued to play fine, but i think we only put DVDs in it for a couple weeks, no BDs. moved the living room tv to the bedroom and got a new LR tv. no problems with the LR player, but now the 2nd player, now that it's attached to my old plasma, will not play any BDs, including ones that it played 2-3 weeks ago, but will play DVDs. the screen says "cannot play" or something to that effect, and the front of the player shows "invalid" for any BD i put in it. has anyone ever seen this, and is it at all possible that it's related to being hooked to the plasma? like i said, my 1st 360 that's now been hooked up to both of these plasmas hasn't had issues hooked up to either plasma. is this all just coincidence and the second 360 just picked that time to go batty? thanks for any info.

It does seem strange on the timing, but when stuff goes, it goes when its ready to. That being said, did you unplug the unit and "reset" it so to speak? Just making sure. Otherwise, it does sound like it could be hosed since it wont play discs that it used to play. Make sure the firmware is the latest and try a few more discs just to be sure.

Call Sony and make them take care of it if need be!

there apparently is a newer firmware, since october, but as i said before, this player did play BDs fine up until yesterday, and the other 360 i have must also have the previous firmware since i bought it sometime in july, and it's never had an issue playing any BDs, including the most recent releases such as public enemies, inglourious basterds, etc. very strange.

Sorry about your 360. My 2 year old Sony BDP-S300 tank failed on Monday (yesterday) with the same message. It will still play DVDs but not BDs. It was slow but it was a good unit, while it lasted. Was hoping to get more than 2 years out of it. I took this failure and made it a good reason to order an Oppo BDP-83 from Amazon. I placed the order yesterday with free 2 day shipping and it will arrive today - in 1 day. Sometimes you just can't beat Amazon service.

Yeah, it doesnt sound like something thats correctable. Give Sony a shout and see if they can help you out.

I don't get it. Are you saying that the only way to get the 2nd 360 Sony BD player to play Blu-ray movies was to install a USB flash drive? Seems to me to be short-sided if Sony is selling BD players incapable of playing without an additional purchase.

After my 60GB PS3 failed, I am now even more reinforced to avoid Sony at all costs. Thank you for sharing your experience.

sorry, dude. i posted this to the wrong thread. as far as i know the 2GB flash drive would have nothing to do with this. the flash drived solved the problem of starship troopers BD not playing in the sony.

maybe a moderator could delete/move this post.

thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience.
