I just found out that this is up for pre-order on amazon, anybody have any technical details on this? Is this an all new high-def transfer overseen by Friedkin or just a rehash of the special edition DVD?

I took a peek at my special edition DVD (upconverted via ps3) and it looked bad, and I'm sort of cynical what it would look like in true HD--I mean, it's not a major release and I doubt if they put a lot of effort into it. And the movie at Amazon (Japan) is over 3000 Yen--that is: over 30$?!?

I still haven't made up my mind to pre-order it or not.

Does anybody have any inside info on what happened to the US release of To Live and Die in L.A.?

They released it in Japan, but I don't want to pay upwards of $50 for it. This is my most anticipated Blu-ray, and I'm getting tired of waiting. Also, what happened to Silence of the Lambs, Ronin, etc? I guess The Thomas Crowne Affair and Dancing with Wolves got postponed because of their recently announced sequels. The other movies don't have sequels coming out, so there is no reason to further postpone them.

Any news would be very much appreciated!!!

If MGM does release "To Live and Die in L.A." on Blu-ray in the near future, I hope that in the special features, they will include the alternate ending that director William Friedkin refused to use in the final film.

Agreed - we need the extras from at least the DVD release!
(the Japanese release has no extras whatsoever)

It's the same with Platoon (MGM), it was announced but no news now. But I hear it's available in Korea?!?

Well, I can give you this much--I've had my pre-order "on the books" with Amazon just sitting there collecting dust since last June; suddenly, yesterday, it went into "Shipping Soon" status. Not sure why they still don't have an official release date listed when it's allegedly only two days away, but it looks like you're safe, if you preordered. If you didn't, I recommend you do so pronto, in case this ends up being some kind of rarity...

FOr some odd reason Amazon doesn't have much news for the release but Best Buy has it listed as a release on Feb 2nd not sure if they will have stock but the retail price seems to be 24.99 / I confirmed with a person at Barnes & Noble one of my local stores is stocking the title and I have it on reserve and says it shows that they are getting a copy for TUES release.

also I heard the transfer is a great upgrade from the DVD (which is included for the bonus features... I hate that aspect, but the BLU disc is a solid transfer.

Does anyone know how much (if anything) William Friedkin has had to do with the forthcoming Blu of TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. ? I'm asking because of the way he totally screwed up FRENCH CONNECTION.

The Blu-ray has been available in other regions from Fox for awhile now. He did not change the visual style as he did with "The French Connection".

I wonder if The Digital Bits got bad info on this one? They claim a 2/2 release and still no word. I hope this title isn't in limbo yet again.

DVD Empire also lists it as 2/2. Sometimes Amazon is late to the party when it comes to listing release dates. Maybe that's the case here.

If one goes on Amazon looking for "To Live and Die in L.A." on Blu ray, there are two versions with one dated 2010 and the other, 2011.

Does anyone know the difference? They look exactly the same, but I don't want to get the wrong one if there's a big difference (PQ/AQ wise). Thanks.
