Default Just turn OFF!!!

My PS3's on/off problem drives me crazy. All I have to do to turn the thing on is lightly bump ANY button on the remote, and the thing turns on. Then, to turn it off, you have to turn the TV on, get it set to the right input it's using, push the damn PS button, go through two menus, and it will FINALLY turn off.

It sure would be nice if:

1. The remote wasn't so darned touchy.
2. The PS3 would just turn off with the push of one button, and not a cycle through menus!

I agree, everytime my cat steps on it, it turns it on. So many times I come home to my PS3 being on.

maybe you should.. move the remote somewhere so you won't accidentally touch it?
I don't have that problem myself.
Also... you can turn it off via a remote/control?

Yeah, you can. The only problem I notice is that you can't immediately shut it off. You have to wait for it to completley power up first...annoying.

Walk to my PS3 and turn it off? Are you kidding me? lol

I don't have any problems with my PS3 turning on. The PS button is the only thing that turns my mine on. The only problem I have is when I'm watching movies and I bump into the analog sticks and fast foward my movie. But I've overcome that little problem by just putting it somewhere better. Simple solutions people.

Hmm. Well if you do turn it off with the switch on the back, it won't turn on by mistake.
I'll have to figure out that power off via remote thing.

You can push the power button (not the switch on the back), just hold it down until it beeps and it will shut down.
OR..you can use your remote and hold down the PS button for 2 seconds, hit enter, then push the right arrow and enter...that will shut it down without having to turn on your tv. You don't need to see the commands if you can remember them

jermwhl, that's what I'm saying... I shouldn't have to go through so many commands just to turn the damn thing off!

Imagine if turning off our TVs were than complicated?

What's wrong with having a simple On/Off button on the remote??? Is that too much for Sony to do on a machine I paid $500+ for?

And I have to hold the button on the front of the PS3 down for more like 4 to 5 seconds to get it to turn off. Just using the switch in the back isn't something I think of as safe, I'm guessing.

The best way I found for me is to just hold down the on/off button on the PS3 for 2 sec and itll shut off....so you wont have to turn your tv on to see whats happening.

I agree. The remote should have a power button like the console.

Perhaps you have a defective remote? Mine certainly does not have any of the problems that you mention.

Other people must have defective remotes too, then, because they've stated that all they need to do is push a button on the BR remote, and the PS3 turns on.

Once again, we're talking about the optional remote -- not the sixaxis controllers, which are another problem causing FF and Rew when you bump them during a movie.

I paid extra money to get the remote because I was tired of bumping my sixaxis controllers when moving through menus. Now I've got the on/off issue I wrote this thread about.

Baccus, I have had the optional PS3 remote since December and have had no problems with it. The only time I ever even use the sixaxis controller is as part of the firmware download process. Again, possibly you have a defective remote?
