Default how can i update my player if i don't have a dvd-rom burner ??

i blew my damn computer up lol so i don't have a burner anymore .. how can i update my player ?? i bought it like 2 or 3 years ago .. the first one Sony released .. and barely even reads ANY blu-ray disc. it's annoying. i even thought of buying a new player but i can't stand the thought of having paid 800$ for a player i'd just give up on like that.

Contact the company that makes it and ask them to send you an update disc.
Many will.

My player will allow DVD or CD to update! May want to see if CD will work if you have a CD Burner that is!

Sony first battle ax player..

Jump on Sony support website, and just fill in the information and in a few days they will send the update disc out to you...

Hope this helps.

Serious Home Theater people really have to start thinking about Ethernet to their Entertainment Centers. The Electronic Companies are finally waking up to a Networked World.

getting a friend or coworker to do it might be faster than waiting for the update disc. my friend also had one of sony first players, never updated the firmware, didnt even know you were supposed to, only used it to play dvds, so when i'd bring over my bluray movies, almost none of them played. i updated his firmware for him, solved it. he now has one bluray movie .

+1 on getting a coworker or friend/relative to burn a disc for you. Just give them the upgrade website address and your model number. It worked for me, my coworker burned a disc for me because I couldn't get one off my XP computer that would work on my Panasonic BluRay.

Buy a DVD Burner. They cost $20 in many cases.

EDIT: Get a new computer.

Id hate to say it buts its probably best to get a new bluray player. Get a BD60, they are often quite cheap.

That's what HDMI 1.4 is for. Only the equivalent of 100BaseT, though.

Yes, Sony will send you the update, on CD, at no cost. You can also use a CD-R for it (no need to use a DVD). But, as you don't have a drive to burn it at all, you can always go with the free Sony update disc. If you request it online, it should come in about a week.

Or, if you are inclined, if you can connect your player to the internet (maybe having to move it away from your setup to get it near the nearest ethernet connection - assuming you have ethernet-based broadband), you can update it and then move it back.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

IDK what slots it has (SD or USB) but a flash drive or card could be used to update....

Not in Sony's case - the one USB port is "write only"...

I doubt it need to be Giga. I mean 100mbits via cable is sustanable. Current to bluray are max 44mbits and it's not even half bandwidth of a local network

That's not entirely accurate.

My Sony BDP-S500 (2,5 years) old never got any update, and everytime played everything (although slower than my current in use BDP-S550). I still keep the BDP-S500 for the looks, with that motorized front panel is marvelous.

And everytime I buy a new BD (I have like 60 up to now) I also check it in the S500, and it playes.
